What have you been watching?

Do you happen to know if they ever finished the movie that Vic was killed in ? A helicopter crash ? I think it was in the Phillipines but I don't recall if it was a war movie or what. Too many years ago but if it was finished what was the name and was it any good ?

By the way, Part of the segment with Vic Morrow, was shown as part of that movie. I think it had him sitting with a few friends in some bar who were making racial comments about Aisians? and the Morrow character, somehoe got ""transported back several years to some rice paddy in Vietnam. I think Vic's sequence ended with him being fired on by some G.I's who (in their eyes) saw him as an NVA soldier. Of course, the helicopter part was not shown.

 

Where Eagles Dare

Not seen this one for some time, yea I know full of errors but what the heck a darn good romp of a movie.

 

Lord of War. Great flick.

It's amazing to think that there are peple out there that actually do that type of work in illegal arms dealing and supply countries like that.

 

i just recently acquired Frank Capra's documentary on WWII watched the first of seven movies, not bad! but i must say my favorite of all time is the 'Band of Brothers" series, mostly because they talk directly to the vets and that is great to get their personal input!!

 

Been watching many episodes from Season 1 of The Andy Griffith Show. Bought it at Wally-World for $19.95. Not bad at all. If anyone is interested, they are selling season 2 for the same price.

On and watched Gary Cooper, Walter Brennan, Dan Duryea, and Babe Ruth in: "Pride of the Yankees. Coop was playing the part of Lou Gerig. I might add, that was a nice change of pace for me and a nice sports film. Before that, I only managed to catch the last half-hour of: Knute Rockne-All American, which is another enjoyable sports film. Ronald Reagan was The Gipper, and Pat O'Brien was, Knute Rockne.

It was also a nice change of pace-in that Dan Duryea was not some sort of an Outlaw in this movie and he did not get killed in it either.

 

The Great Escape

I have it on DVD, but there is always at least one TV channel, here in the UK, that shows it on Christmas day or a bank holiday...every year.

 

This morning - watched a few more episodes from the 1st seeason of: The Andy Griffith Show. That show sure is some nice escapism.

 

I envy you guys in Europe and North America for the easy availability of World War II movies. In my country, World War II movies on TV are rare. The last locally made WWII movie about the Bataan campaign was filmed more than three decades ago. There was a Hollywood film made on the rescue of US POWS held in a Japanese camp in Nueva Ecija about two or three years ago.

Anyway, all I have seen lately is Warbirds on National Geographic Channel and the various WWII stuff shown on Discovery Channel and NGC.
A friend also gave me a copy of the first episode of Rat Patrol. I remember it as a kid but I now that I've seen it again, I'm surprised that it was barely over 30 minutes long.

What I wish to do (when I have the time) is incorporate the battle sequences of Saving Private Ryan with The Longest Day. I could probably do that too with Pearl Harbor and Tora Tora Tora. My buddies and I used to that with Star Wars and Star Trek films, splice them up and dub it for fun.

What I really want to do is get my Dad (a retired Phil. Air Force colonel) all the John Wayne WWII pics. He was a teenager during the War and told me tales of how they had to trek on foot from Northern Luzon, pass through the mountain city of Baguio, then down the plains of Central Luzon to escape the advancing Japanese troops. They were strafed several times, too, he added.

I also had an uncle who was a major during Bataan and when I compare his stories with some war movies today, realism it seems has flown out the window.

 

Aint THAT the truth! I fully agree with you. Also, getting the 1st two seasons of: The Andy Griffith Show for $40 bucks plus tax-aint bad at all. I will be getting every season that has Barney Fife in them. After Don Knotts left the show, it simply was never the same.

Still watching season 1 of: The Andy Griffith Show. This morning on TCM, I was able to watch: Treasure of the Sierra Madre (one of my favorite Bogie films) w/ Humphrey Bogart, Tim Holt and: "Badges? We Don't Need No Stinkin' Badges" Alphonso Bedoya (((My 3rd most favorite Mexican Actor-after Anthony Quinn and Pedro Armendariez, of course)))) and then was able to catch on AMC-The Longest Day w/ Duke, Bob Mitchum, Rich Burton, Hans-Christian Blech, Gert Frobe, Curt Jurgens, Hank Fonda and so many others.

Hey Carl did you ever see the movie "No Time for Sgts." It had Andy and also a short section with Barney. The movie was rather long so they don't play on TV much but it was funny. I really like the part where he rigs the toliet lids to go up and down with a foot pedal.

Andy was also in anouther movie about the Coast Guard but I don't recall the name of it. It was not a funny movie but it was about crooked officers on a Coast Guard Cutter.

 

I saw the Yankees loose to Cleveland.... GRRRRRR!!!
