I've heard of the series, but haven't had control over the remote-when it's played ;-)) Heh heh, my Brother-in-Law faces the same thing w/ my Sister when she has the remote-he doesn't get to see anything filmed in black and white.
Believe it or not but, Fort Apache was on again last night-so I watched it again. That is one Western I will never tire of. Also saw an episode of The Time Tunnel, Voyage To the Bottom of the Sea & Land of the Giants.
For me it was; The Wind and the Lion with Sean Connery and Candice Bergen. It's a pitty that they don't start to remake some of those classics. Regards Kruska
Channel 4 are really going up in my estimation. Fresh from last week's afternoon John Wayne season, there's a new one of war movies next week; Guadalcanal Diary on Monday Destination Gobi on Tuesday Retreat, Hell! on Wednesday They who Dare on Thursday The Silent Enemy on Friday.
I agree, it's a very good movie. I love the fact that they also use as many of the extras--actual men who were in the 101st and who were also in Bastogne. The cast was superb, and I don't think could have been improved upon. Anyway, anyone who likes this movie as much as I-gets my nod ;-))
Sorry for this third posting but needed to reply to it. Gordon, if you have never seen Guadalcanal Diary before-it's an excellent movie. Anthony Quinn shines in it. Also, the small unit of Marines "last stand" on that beach, is a true incident. Anthony Quinn was the "sole survivor" of that small unit and he goes on a Japanese killing spree to avenge the deaths of his comrades. I've never seen Destination Gobi, but always wanted to. I THINK it is also out on region 1 DvD too. I THINK Retreat, Hell-is to do with the Americans in Korea during the "Frozen Chosin" retreat. Though I have seen this one before-it's been at least 35 years since I did so I can't remember anything about it-except that I liked it. I don't think this one has been released on DvD yet. I never heard of the last two but, they do sound like good movies. Take care and best regards--Carl.
Cheers Carl. Retreat, hell! is a Korean War epic, seen it before. They who Dare stars Dirk Bogarde and Denholm Elliot as commandos in Crete; it's a sort of dress rehearsal for Ill Met by moonlight. Never heard of the last one though.

Just saw a B/W film about a US Navy supply ship in the latter days of World War II on TCM. I wasn't able to get the title of the movie since I missed the start but it starred Henry Fonda as Lt. Robinson. The movie had its shining moments and was meant to be humorous, I think. But some scenes that were meant to be serious felt, at least for me, a bit contrived. Still, it's a movie that could help someone pass the time. Not that good, but not that bad either. This was followed up by the movie Undersea Warrior about the post war US Navy Underwater Demolition Teams. It was interesting at first but there were several parts that dragged. I would have to say that the Henry Fonda movie was a lot better than "Undersea Warrior."
Saw the Caine Mutiny yesterday. Seen it before, and I'll see it again. I like the old movies. They did not have the shock and awe special effects of today, and had to rely on good actors and a plot....
I definitely share your view about old movies. Of course, even old movies had their share of duds. On the whole, I have discovered that old movies have talented supporting actors and actresses who make the lead stars shine and make the plot come alive.
