Had Hitler attempted to contact the Allies in any way, there is no doubt he would have been captured and executed for his role in the war. The Allied conferences throughout the war repeatedly stated unconditional surrender for all Axis powers, including Italy.
The question about Italy and their surrender was brought up. The answer is that Italy not only surrendered to the Allies, but they severed all ties with Germany and Japan and delared war on Germany. This happened shortly after Mussolini was captured and executed.

Donnitz's succesor government thought they could cut a deal. For the two weeks this rump government carried on in Flensburg the members deluded themselves to various degree about their prospects, and made inquiries to Allied representatives. The minister of propaganda even continued broadcasting anti Communist propaganda. Eventually the Soviet and British governments noticed and orders were passed down to Montys's HQ to close down this last remaining nazi group.

The portion about Mussolini is slightly off, Mussolini was discharged from the government, was then arrested by the new Italian government in 1943, rescued by Skorzeny from the house arrest at the San Grasso (?) ski resort.

He then operated that "rump" Fascist state in Northern Italy and was not recaptured and executed by the Italian partisans until nearly two years later; in 1945. The Italians were given a slightly less draconian set of surrender terms because they had dismissed Mussolini and the Fascist party members from the government. Which was one of the conditons included in the "unconditional" surrender declaration.

That unconditional surrender statement is often mis-understood to mean NO terms, it simply means the terms offered are non-negotiable. Accept them as dictated by your opponents, or continue to fight the war.

Before the Allied invasion of fortress Europe, Hitler might have had a chance at peace. But from Hitler's standpoint he still had a lot going for him despite the setbacks in the Eastern Front and in N. Africa. I think by April of 1945, it was all gain for the Allies and there was no real point in preserving Nazi Germany though a peace process.
