Sorry for the blunt response. I lost my Dad a few months ago, and I suppose it helps to try to identify an entity responsible. Logically, I understand the short comings of any system, but when it gets personal, well ya just kinda flip out. I can say there were mishaps in the private hospitals that rivaled the poor performance of the V.A. Que Sera...or as my old man would say "it's too late to close the barn doors once the horses got out." Hindsight is 20/20.

Sorry about your father's passing, I hope that it was painless death for him. Where did he serve?
I didn't take it as being blunt. It was an accurate, good point.

Well if you were sent to Iraq it would be because you volenteerd. (Worlds best all volenteer army) While I am sure that there are some men not getting all the help they need, the US military tries to help all of them. Some people say that Walter Reed problems were a horrible thing, while it was not good see how fast it got fixed when people complain about the problem. Sometimes things get forgotten that shouldnot be, and problems arise, but it also gets fixed that way.

You have no clue about what happened in New Orleans, so please refrain from speaking about it.

Interesting the press is more corrupt than I thought, serves me right for believing in the basic goodness of people. I take back what I said, the news agencies will make up whole stories.

About global tempeture talk... um when you do science by group vote, and not by hard evidence, you get what you vote for.

As the proverb says, take everything with a grain of salt. Try it all and look for the common threads here lies the truth.

    Can I borrow your shield?

They do. Thank you for your fathers sacrifice.

I am sorry, I know how hard that must be. And it is all too true about the horses, hopefully the care system will be better for those that follow.

My condolences Zippo I wish you and your family the best...

I think the major reason for whats going on in the US hospitals regarding troops, is that the administration was simply not prepared for such a war and so many casualties to come in. Bush is not the only leader that has made that mistake.

Actually I was mistaken, according to Wiki, US is now #2 ( might be because of the current wars and im not sure how accurate this might be. )

Also this is only for active troops, if you count in the reserves, the US would fall quite a few slots down the list.

    1. China
    2. US
    3. India
    4. North Korea
    5. Russia

Just an example of the Internets biggest problem, nothing ever matches.:p

This is again why this thread is here, it is not President Bushs job to make sure the vets get their health care. This dose fall under the military which he as commander in chief directs, but the program is set up and the daily maitainance of this program fall to the Veteran Affaris committee. When problems are found the President has them fixd, but unless he knows he has to trust the people to do their jobs.

I was referring to the troops returning from current combat duties.

I think I need to clarify my statment.

Vets are those who might have been injured and discharged currently, or during any action and those that have retired. Those that are not discharged are still treated in the Military and returned to active duty. Either way they are supposed to get care.

He was born in North Dakota and worked on the family farm until he "escaped" (as he put it) in 1962. He joined the Air Force and was assigned as an electrician on the Minuteman 1 and 2 missles, and was in the silo's during the Cuban Missle Crisis. He married my mom in 1964.

He was stationed in Phu Cat and one of his major dissapointments was that many of the South Viet nationals showed no intrest in the trade he attempted to teach them.
He retired from the AF after 22 years of service in the Civil Engineering Squadron as a Chief MSGT.
He went on to retire from the GSA two years ago and always called himself a "double dipper".
He was active in his church and the VFW. He was the official representitve for the MIA/POW in all the marches and parades for his post.
He was 63 years old when he passed.

This is him in 1972 in Nam. He never was far from the B-B-Q pit. :)

I appreciate all the kind words ya'll posted above. It helps to talk about him with some anonymity, as it is still hard to discuss with family. Thanks again.

    Respectfully, Zippo.
