    Some production figures-
    Germany:
    Tiger 1 - 1355
    Tiger 2 - 487
    Panther - 6,000
    Panzer IV - 8,800
    =16,642 medium and heavy tanks
    Russia:
T-34 - 84,000 (not counting other types like JS 3 etc.)
    US:
Sherman - 48,000 (not counting heavier types like M10).

(Note these figures do not even include British tanks used in Europe.)

How many more panthers could have been built by concentrating on producing only the Panther? Maybe not enough to make much difference.

I have to agree. By the time the Panther II was more than a drawing, both the US and Russians could produce ten Shermans or T-34's to one of anything German. And with nearly every factory in Germany being bombed almost daily, there was no way they could hope to catch up.

Of course, it didn't help a lot that Hitler wanted to insist on self-propelled bunkers like Maus and E-100.
