Mine is one of my favorite SciFi Book characters by Jerry Pournelle. "John Christian Falkenberg III: Colonel, Commanding Officer, Falkenberg's Mercenary Legion (also known as the 42nd Regiment); former Colonel, 42nd CoDominium Line Marines. Son of Professor John Christian Falkenberg II. First appearance in The Mercenary, in which he was the central character, as well as West of Honor and Prince of Mercenaries. Falkenberg's Legion included The Mercenaryand West of Honor along with some previously unpublished material about Falkenberg's youth. After graduating from the CoDominium Naval Academy on Luna, he held a commission in the Navy before transferring to the Marines, where he became the youngest marine captain in the history of the Fleet until Harlan Slater. He became a mercenary commander after being court-martialed for insubordination" http://www.fortunecity.com/tattooine/heinlein/326/CoDominium/maj_char.htm The Prince (Pournelle) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Mine is also a "carry over" from other forums, just got used to the name over the years. Brown Dirt Cowboy was my "handle" on the CBs back in the seventies on the farm/ranch here in Montana. I took that from an old Elton John album "Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy". Subsequently I used the abr. version on my vehicle license plates here in MT., "brndirt" on one vehicle, "brndirt1" on my 4x4 pickup, and "brndirt2" on the wife's car. Our personalized plates were limited to only eight digits/letters BTW. Now over the past thirty + years it has become a bit of a habit I guess.
Mines after the famous wartime graffiti, known as Chad in the UK and Kilroy in the US, typically scribbled to express a lack of something, eg: Wot? No Beer? Of course here there weren't any Chads...
Like several, went with initials and last name. Realized I wasn't that good at remembering nick names, or coming up with one. If I'd been thinking at the time, I'd probably have gone with Lady Mike, the main nickname I had in my 20s.
My old computer had IE5, and several attempts with several handles didn't work. Since Lia is my one true love, I tried Lia's Co-Pilot (she's a pilot) and it finally worked.
Actually it started as a heckel and grew into a nick name and naturally progessed into and e-mail address and hence into a screen name and now I use it on the boards I post on. Not too much of a mystery as to the meaning. Brad
It was my radio call sign when I first started on patrol with the state police in 1982. We were issued license plates with our call signs to be mounted on our cars upon graduating from the academy. Once assigned to our troop (mine was Troop A of course), we were contacted by our call signs on the air, and used as nick names (usually preceeded by an expletive by the shift sergeant, ie "where's f#@kin 58 now!"), addressed as such in memos and notes, and labeled our gear with it. I will remember it always, and it's easy to use too.

Toxic...Ummm, I've been under many alias' because of my vast variety of games I play(ed) but Toxic just seems to suit me, I have really no idea why My other names that I can remember are: - Blackhawk (back in the days of MOHAA) - Darcris (I still use it for user names and such, my names Chris..so like Dark Chris ) - RifleMaster (MOHAA & CoD 2) - Lt. Nightblack (once again MOHAA) Cheers! // Tox P.S. For those who don't know what MOHAA stands for it's a First Person Shooter: Medal of Honor Allied Assault CoD = Call of Duty
Tomcat? It is mainly after the combat plane. I came up with the name when I was younger and my brother said chose a call sign in this jet game we were playing. I couldn't think of anything except there was a tomcat on the screen and well it has stuck on me, and that was nearly 11 years ago now. I also always liked the cat part in it, I see cats as graceful, agile, fast and vicious when they are in a corner, much like me. I also believe they are smarter then they let on, people saying cats are stupid because they don't come when they are called, now is that really a sign of stupidity or intelligence? Maybe they are thinking, "why would I do that?"
Rip came to me from the actor's name, Rip Torn. And -vulcan came to me from the Roman god of fire, Vulcan, which is also a trade name for heaters. So originally I got on to another military forum and put my absurd and comically macho name as "Rip Vulcan". I wanted it to sound as absurd and as mock-macho as I could. Then I just compounded them together as the now familiar "Ripvulcan". By the way, the other military forum, which I left years ago, was not a fraction as good as these forums on ww2f.com. I like it here. I've spent hours on here already reading the topics and the responses and everyone here certainly knows their stuff. I am learning a great deal.
