It seems that the Democrats are only economic liberals. It's the Conservatives that should be considered Liberal, since they are.

    Sorry I couldn't resist. It's a bad habit.

Probably handguns or knives. Especially in Toronto. York Region cops have a homemade mace they confiscated. (have seen it...scaryy looking thing too.)

I seen a crossbow build by a German POW. It looked awsome. They sign said "crude but deadly".

Look up the meaning of "Liberal" in any given encyclopedia and you will find that the word is almost a blueprint for the policies of the Republican Party in the US. Conservatives are liberal. Democrats are progressive-liberal or social-liberal which has very little to do with Liberalism in the end. Why these terms have become so mixed up in common American use is beyond me.

Liberalism = free market economy, invisible hand, tiny state, individual liberties, freedom of speech, press and expression, etc etc.

tougher gun laws never solve anything, it restricts the legal users from having something which criminals will get anyway on the blackmarket.

But it means that anyone carrying a weapon can be arrested straight away, which is a powerful deterrent if it is enforced with random checks of people.

Yes, more police would be ideal, but unrealistic for many parts of the United States. New York Police Department has 40,000 officers to patrol a city of over three million; no way near enough especially with the ever-increasing threat of terrorism. Hell, almost 800 police departments in the United States have only one officer. There is definitely a shortage in my town (15 officers for a pop. of 10,000 including undocumentees).

To help finance more police officers and the many resources that surround policing, I believe guns should have limited restrictions (there is no need to own a machine gun, no matter how awesome it would be) and a tax imposed on purchases of firearms, just like those imposed on cigarettes and alcohol.

Which we lack in Britain (well in Bristol anyway) I rarely see a policeman(woman) on patrol or in cars around the centre of Bristol or in any of the more rough areas such as Easton and St. Pauls.

People in North America would complain its unconstituional and in some states you are allowed to carry a weapon.

This happened a couple months ago I know less than a year ago. Here in Windsor an off duty Police officer was shot by 2 teenagers when he tried to stop a drug deal infront of a convience store.
Gun laws do very little, such as the Gun Registry I don't beleive it did much except cost the government billions of dollars.

More and more states in the US are passing lifetime "carry" permits for handgun owners. Recipient is subject to suspension of permit if a later related offense is committed that would disqualify him from the terms of said privileges. Indiana is one of the states that has passed such legislation.
It keeps the criminals honest when they realize they could be outgunned by a middle-aged housewife. It also serves as a sober deterrent to home-invasion. Some of the cities with the most restrictive gun-ownership suffer the highest percentages in gun-related crimes. Registration and certification only works with law-abiding citizens. Criminals most often 'by-pass' such details.

More people die in swimming accidents than are killed by guns. We need to register all swimming pools and barricade all creeks and rivers.

Heck, the world can't even cope with the drug problem, much less control criminals using guns. Gun control is a way that politicians make themselves look as though they are making your world safer so they will be remembered on voting day.
