Hi Ulrich , unfortunately I don't have too much about Catania. Several Luftwaffe units were there in 1943, including NJG2 for example

Thanks Skipper, i heard of the Luftgaustab z.b.V.10 were stationed at Catania, is that right? Its his first unit at war and there is no information to get on this except that it was at Leningrad and were named Luftgaustab Nord at there.

    Regards

I have a great interest in WW1 militaria as well as WW2, shown here is a WW1 American M1917 helmet belonging to a soldier of the 78th infantry division (the lighting bolt division) - in mint condition :D

During WW1 they fought in the campaigns of St. Mihiel, and Meuse-Argonne. It was made up of men from New York and New Jersey.

here is a Wiki link if anyone is interested in knowing more:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/78th_Infantry_Division_(United_States)

the liner and chinstrap are in great condition, while the painted shell is just perfect.

note the lighting bolt insigna.....these were often painted on, on the troop ships when heading back to the US.

Well who said there were no more kriegsmarine finds to be made in 2010?
I still can't believe I'm the owner of this fine M-35 KM helmet with 95% of the original paint + chin strap included. The liner band is enclosed although no more leather liner. It was originally found near Caen by a Norman. The man moved and I met him this morning selling a few militaria things bunch of junk. We had a nice chat and I asked if he had anything else . He said what else? Then he said he had a helmet home but did not bother bringing it because it had a swastika on it and did not want people bother him if he put it on a table . He invited me home and showed me the helmet and I immediately agreed to buy it.

Also just noticed that it is an M42 shell and not an M35.

Cheers for the nice comments lads, Thanks John I also mix up between the rivets between the M-35 and the m-42 models. Maybe I should find a few other ones to train so Brad would hate me even more :)

Hi Skip, great lid ;-)) I was also going to say what John said about it not being an M-35 or an M-40 because of no rolled edge. I now wish that I had taken pics of my long since stolen M-35 DD Luft lid-named to an NCO. It wasnt in the greatest of shape-no rusting or pits but paint, liner and decal wise) but it was my first M-35 and was still in collectors grade condition.
