I was waiting for more info actually, either by Erich or someone else familiar with this ace. I mean Oak leaves and 44 kills, not all nachtjagd but most probably...?

lovely pic of P. Gildner Kai. I have another more frontal view of the pilot. 44 kills with 42 at night. He had a fire in his engine on the night of February 24/25 1943 near Gilze-Rijen when he Bordfünker was able to bail out and am still exploring the explanation of his accidental death. He was awarded posthum the EL to his Ritterkreuz as an Oberfeldwebel and he was promoted after death to Oberleutnant. Flying Bf 110G-4 coded G9+HH of 1./NJG 1. there is no doubt in my mind due to his excellent pilot skill had he lived into 1944 he would of flown the He 219A and become successful with this craft as well. His score is high due to his multiple scoring success's on evening missions

Received several nice German KM items while on leave up north of wence I shall return very shortly. just scanned this in so this posting will be long. the Recipient of the Soldbuch first was involved in a Marine Artilliere replacement unit sent for several months to Torpedo training school in Kolberg then sent to the Schnellbootlehrdivison and then to it's 1.Schnellbootschule. Some pics with some very interesting signautres, one by DkIG winner Gerhard Meyering who was CO of the 1. Abteilung of the S-BootLehr Division and also Wilcke who CO'd the 1.S-BootSchule Flottille operating in the northern waters

still studying this chap folks service possibly on 1 of 6 associated S-Boots in the area of Norway though no awards have been given to him example like : EK 2 or S-Boot badge, though it really does not seem complete pages are missing I have found. Torpedo-Mech Obergefreieter he was as final ranking and could of served on a Boat, or at dock working on the Torpedos ready for the Schulflottille when they were out to See.

Nice framed big size photo of GFM v. Brauchitsch.
With big signature of him and the photographer Röhr.
With original note on the reverse side for what this photo was dedicated.

Well guys my sweet wife took all the right hints for Christmas! She got me two books "Islands of the Damned" by R.V. Burgin and "You'll Be Sor-Ree!" by Sid Phillips. And they were autographed by the authors as well! Here are some photos of the books. In Phillips' book, the inside cover photo is his unit on Guadalcanal. Unfortunately his back is turned to the camera because he was busy with a "call to nature". He is on the extreme right of the photo.

Here's my latest bit of kit - a WW2 homefront british babies gas mask.

The baby would be placed inside and the lower straps would be tightened to make a seal. The parent would then use the attached hand pump to feed filtered air in to the interior of the gas mask.

Very nice John, I've seen a few of these before, I would'nt think the babies would be too fond of being inside them though.

Yes Andy, I would imagine it to be very claustrophobic - even for a baby!

Is the carring frame designed for the baby to be on the adults back or front? .....I presume front if the air has to be pumped in by hand

I'm not sure how they were carried, although there are two buckles and fold out brackets on the back that look like they may have been used to attached the gasmask to some sort of chest fitted harness or something.

Skip, nice additions to your ever expanding collection. :)

I just saw one of these on the History Channel show 'Pawn Stars'. The concensus was that it was a sad indictment of man's inhumanity to man that such a device had to be created.
