At last ,my first German 7x50 (large model) Diensstglas binos. They have artilery graduations on the right . Maker markings are from ERNST LEITZ (Wezlar) and the blue circle means they are resistant up to -40 celsius , if used with proper grease . The icing on the cake: the leather button carier is still on it! This was quite an investment at a militaria fair, but definitely worth the 150 euros Iinvested in this beauty.

Thanks, I have always wanted to have one of these, but it took me over 10 years to find a decent pair . German binos are not rare but the 7 x 50 ones are hard to find. They were also made for the KM , but then they would be coded N as as well and I have seen them with an eagle . I actually bought them at the end of the day and I'm surprised noone bought them earlier.

Thanks Gentlemen I'm actually quite proud about my Weitz binos. The russian ones seem clearly inspired by the the German WW2 optic technology.

    Indeed.

I forgot to mention that I have green and orange extensions for eyecups. I guess they're used for sun.

An interesting 80th Infantry Division grouping to W.O. J. Gr. Joseph W. D'Aguanno. He was a Tech 4th Gr., a motor transport specialist with the service company of the 317th. Then he got promoted to Warrant Officer and was transferred into the Sv. Co. of the 318th. He ended the war as Chief Warrant Officer.

There's a pile of paper work......but also an invitation to a formal dinner, hosted for the officers of the 318th by a Czech district commission in October 1945, a cool picture.......

CIB, his medals, regimental DUI, rank insignia....

His dog tags, above those from his time as W.O., below those he was issued when he was an enlisted man.

    Rank Insignia.

80th Division General Order No 19, where he got his CIB.

The picture, at first I did not have any info, neither on the men, nor on the place where it was taken. I was quite confident that the photograph had been taken in Luxembourg, in the Alzette river valley, either in the Steinsel / Helmdange / Mullendorf area, or about 12 miles to the north in Colmar. But then I found the same pic in Harry S. Brogan's excellent book: "80th "Blue Ridge" Infantry Division", published in 1991 by Turner Publishing Company, provided by Joseph D'Aguanno, in the caption were cited the names of all the Officers shown on the photograph!

    Standing, left to right:
Lt. Cox, Capt. Putnam, Capt. Burlew, WO Atkinson and WO Tilley.

    Kneeling, left to right:
Capt. Bone, WO Savold, WO D'Aguanno and Capt. Babin.

In the caption it also says that the picture was taken on 11 January 1945, so my educated guess, that it had been taken in Colmar / Luxembourg was right, as you can read in the Company Morning report from that date!

319th Infantry Officers "Crossed Rifles" collar insignia, this one seems to date back to WWI.

Around Colmar is certainly possible, not Colmar which was iberated on February 2nd 1945 only. You'll probably like the city's site with many great pics.
