I knew that Austrians had a more-than-average percentage among war criminals and persons involved in the holocaust. But this can be explained (at least partially) with the fact that Hitler set in German nazis to rule Austria - he didn't trust native Austrians to be loyal, not even the nazis. So, a lot of German nazi staff were installed in Austria, whereas Austrian nazis were given these 'other' jobs.

And let's also remember that Heydrich arrested more than 60.000 people, just in Vienna the first night of the German occupation... [IMG]

I'm not sure where I'd want to serve but with the big (read "long-distance") guns is where I'd like to be too. [IMG]

    Duck, fire and pull back!

If I was a bit more ballsy I'd man a AT gun and slay metal dragons.

Freddy, I think the breakdown is something like 40% paras 40% commandos or similar, 20% other combat units and then there is me (and I seem to remember No.9) serving tea as far from the lines as possible, not forgetting Urqh's book stall on the beaches. ;) :D

I would serve as a salior in the navy because most of the time you do not come under enemy fire. The type of ship would be a destroyer because me grandfather was on a destroyer during World War II. [IMG]

I would be a German U-boat commander, A sherman tank crewman, or a crewman on the Tirpitz.

    God, you're BRAVE!

An U-boat were 75% of the men do not survive, a ship which was attacked many times and finally sunk and a very bad tank to face a German 88mm gun... :D [IMG]

You stick to your guns, Leitung !

( I could be mischievous and say I'd like to be a destroyer crewman with Walker RN, a Jagdpanther gunner in NW Europe, or a SABS bomb-aimer with 617 Squadron - but I won't ! ;) :D )

Paratroopers? I can't believe anyone would want to jump out of a perfectly good plane into the hornet's nest with no support.

I like gadgets and there is no gadget meaner or tougher than a Tiger I, I'd like to either be a driver or gunner. I had the luck once of sitting in a T-64 which was sat outside an Army Surplus shop in England. All the controls were more or less intact so I climbed in and remembering the desperate situation in "The Beast" (where the tank commander has to aim manually as his motor was bust), started cranking the Manual Traverse. [IMG]

There is nothing more satisfying in the world than swinging a 125mm gun and aiming it at...well in this case it was a cow.

I got told off in the end because, while I could not endanger any one with HE, I had the barrel protruding out over the main road. So it took some heavy cranking to get it back in line with the shop [IMG]

Now isn't that better than "hitting the silk" ?

I would have to say I'd like to serve in the 101st Airborne (that is with Winters). I would just love the thrill of being on the move all the time and being in the action and serving my country all the time. Yeah, you guys probably think I'm crazy but look at the guys who were in the 101st, can't get much crazier than that. :D
