My Favourite Vehicle? The USS Iowa (BB-61) the last active duty and longest serving Battle Ship of the US Navy. Comissioned on the 22nd of February 1943 and decomissioned on the 26th of october 1990.

Favourite weapon? Definately the M1 Garand

CAC: I'm glad you want to sit in your garage with a ME 262. The darn thing probably killed as many German pilots as enemy action did. However, it certainly was not the most dangerous to the user weapon the Germans developed.

urgh: a flower class corvette? I suspect you better have a lifetime supply of Dramamine to go with it. I believe Nicolas Monsarrat (sp ?) wrote, "A corvette would roll on wet grass!"

Since the rest of you got all the good ones (sniff), I guess I'll have to go with the MG-42.

Not all the good ones have been taken.

I've always liked the Jungle Carbine.

    Looks like a hunting rifle.

I've never been to keen on the Jungle Carbine. The ones I've shot have kicked like a mule and haven't been much in the accuracy department, but to each his own. I'm surprises no one has mentioned the Enfield Mk 4. I consider it a lot better bolt action than it looks.

The 57mm AutoCannon and the rocket projectiles and the shell technology that went with them.

The planning, effort and forethought that went into it fascinates me.
Mission planners would designate contact, delayed action, proximity or altimeter setting for fuses... armour piercing, frag, incendiary.

I would like to hear an explanation of how the ground crews aligned the rockets or cannons so they would hit in a tight pattern. Unsung hero's.

I like this thread (Incidentally, I've edited the title, taken away the all caps and replaced it with non-yelling text).

I'm partial to the mp40, because I have one. The stg44 is nice also. Always really liked the M1 Carbine though, a compact, classy little slice of death.

It would be a toss up between the BREN gun and the Owen gun.

Less stopping power, less accurate at longer ranges.
    Other than that, not much.

If Hitler had pursued "Sealion", if the drive to Moscow had succeeded, if Naziism had been triumphant throughout Europe, there still would have been this scenario, with an America equpped with 10 or more "long gun" atomic weapons:

Pres. Truman: "OK, why are we looking at pictures of Poland. Who cares?"

Staff: "There are some serious policyi implications."

Pres. Truman: "What are they, By the way, why am I staring att some place called Auschwitz that has what look like gigantic bakeries?"

Staff: "Mr. President, we were just coming to that...'

OK going by that criteria I'd have a fully loaded LST complete with all the equipment & vehicles that would go on it.
    :)
so I'd have everthing from a knife, fork & spoon set to a tank or two plus the ship itself.

Don't forget your sea sickness pills. I think I read a quote somewhere that said, 'They'd roll on wet grass' :)
