Which was superior?

    Hey guys I am wondering if a ship of the Iowa class and the Yamato class just wondering like in different situations which would win?

    If you look around the net you will see this hotly debated in quite a few forums. In particular look at kbismarck and warships1. There's also a BB analysis at Battleship Comparison.

    Just looking at the ships the Yamato had bigger guns with heavier shells and thicker armor. Iowa had in its radar directed fire control and verticle stables a better fire control system. So beyond 30,000 yards and in poor visibility Iowa has a tremendous advantage. From about 10,000 yards to 30,000 yards that advantage goes away in clear weather and somewhere (most of it actually) in the middle of it Yamato has the advantage. Under 10,000 yards in good visibility it's pretty even
