I am now going to watch the duke in.."shepherd of the hills" carl..never seen it before...hopefully it's a good one.. first time I've seen the duke and bond, have a fight..
That's what I thought, there is a lack of new ideas it seems, for example in 2012 a new film of The Sweeney is being released with Ray Winston who lets be honest is getting on a bit to play Regan, John Thaw was in his 30's not 50's when he created the role. Why they feel the need to remake classic films I don't know, is it because modern audiences won't watch old films any more? Back when I lived in Milton Keynes one of the cinemas used to do a classic night and it was great to see films such as The Magnificent Seven as they were meant to be seen, not as I had only seen them on the small screen.
the sweeney was a classic in it's time, but to watch it now! way too dated, and not as hard an impact like todays programs..again! best left alone..
Hi Ray, thanks for the Tony Curtis and Kirk Douglas pics from The Vikings. They actually made the movie on location and the sword fight scenes were made very realistic thanks to a 3-3 deal-meaning that they only fought with three sword swings at a time. That Fort Apache pic from further above is agreat one. Henry Fonda as Col Owen Thursday, Duke, Sergeant Major (Bond) and Duke as Captain York. In that photo, that is exactly how Duke looked in real life-according to Mr brooks. Barring the use of make-up-he is what you saw without it at that time. no hair piece or anything ;-00 Ive never seen Shepard of the hills all the way through and quite frankly, it appeared to be a bit boring as its not really my idea of a john Wayne movie-though i did like the cast which included Harry Carey Sr.
a nice shot with chill wills, a great old actor, and best remembered by me, in rio grande, as doctor wilkins..when he whacked victor McGlaglen with that bloody great stick..lol! I bet that would have hurt!! if for real..ha! ha!
Agreed about Chill Wills, same for Ben Johnson. Ben Johnson BTW was a Roder Star and the Worlds Best Horseman-before hw started acting. The pic with him holding the Confederate battleflag-is cool.
