Just got this one, i think the one in the front is cleaning a Krag Jørgensen rifle(You can tell by the sling):

Yup, he is defiantly a Krag Jørgensen he is cleaning, so the picture must have been taken somewhere in Norway.

Hi E, I think the BT tank on the left was knocked out by an anti-tank rifle-notice the small ole-too small for a PAK round ;-))

Hi Collector-you beat me out of that General in staff car pic - darn you  He's also a General der (probably) Infantry. this General should be fairly easy to ID. Please let me know when you get it in and see if there is any writing on the back. The reason I wanted this one was because of the great shot of his shoulderboard. If im going to lose out on a photo, I prefer it to be someone on this site ;-)) Ive got about 14 more I bid on today but have not checked if I won any or not?

It is a Krag, I have a Krag Carbine myself which allegedly saw service during the Spanish - American War and allegedly was issued to someone in Roosevelts command. I dont say anything for sure because I have yet to spend the $100 or so dollars to have is serial number checked. The date on it is correct for service there. mine also has its original sling which is a marked Rock Island Arsenal sling.

Hi Tex, also notice they are older personnel which means they were in a Landwehr Division and is an early war pic-most likely 1939 or 1940 at the latest. These guys would not have initially seen a lot of combat so they must have been involved in some fairly heavy stuff for this amount of men to get the EKII and that early on.

I just noticed the first photo was taken in Holland or The Neatherlands-just saw the windmill for the first time while replying above.

Hi Skipper, I dont mind the MG pic posted. I liked it too and thought long and hard about bidding on it. The only reason I didnt was because im not into training photos. ;-))

I did bid on one with you in mind which is the French pic ;-))

Oh and thanks for the corection on the Windmills-typical Ami (me) assuming all are alike ;-)) Im surprised I won any of these so im satisfied till I start bidding on some Brauchitsch and Blomberg pics.

Normally i'd spout off as to what these four new pics contain but-ill let the anticipation build till you can get them online ;-)) True not spectacular but just under spectacular shots with great subject in all of them.

One thing I will say is that three of these have subjects in them that are as scarce as Hens teeth-and even rarer. One in particular-is the first such shot I have seen of said subject, in ten years ;-))

Im going to have to keep my eye on V/ on future auctions. ;-)) Ill try to remember his ebay username so I dont bid against him. V/ well have to share a tad bit of info by PM as I really do not wish to bid against you on something you really want. Theres plenty of good pics to go around so I dont wanna be greedy.

Just arrived today, a Dak officer, by his tent, in the desert in 1941. Any help on translating the writing on the reverse would be much appreciated, though some of it I can read, Nordafrika and the date 1941.

    Thanks Jerry

Ps, Has anyone got an opinion as to what is hanging from the tent? I think it is a tropical canvas wash bowl, or maybe, less likely a trop cap?

Ober Leutnant und Kompanie Führer Gotfried ........
    Nord Afrika , Frujahr 1941.

Ober Leutnant and Company leader Gotfried ....... North Africa, Spring 1941.

    Hope this helps

No problem Carl, here are a few examples and you will recognize the russian type of mill on your pic.

Yes, thanks, though I had most of it and I think his name is Muntau. Its a good early image, spring 41, hopefully I can discover which unit he was with?

    Jerry
I just googled him and got this, From 15-Jul-1944 ?30-Dec-1944 he was with LVI Panzer Corps and he was the Ia, with the rank of Major

Muntau, Gottfried, 16.08.1942, Hptm., III./Schtz.Rgt. 115, he was awarded german cross in gold, as part of 15th panzer division. This from another google entry.

also awarded the Commendation Certificate of the Commander-in-Chief of the Army, on the 05.09.1942 (1181), Hptm., Btl.Fhr. I./Pz.Gren.Rgt. 115

Muntau is correct. I had trouble to decypher the "au" part. If this is indeed the same guy, he appears to have experienced quite a few combats and apparently escaped the surrender of the DAK in 1943. If his data stopped in 1944 , it could mean he was either transfered or taken pow. Have you checked the Volksbundkriegsversörge site? I hope he is not listed there because if he is it would mean he would have been kia in 1944

    or French :)

    Steenvoorde http://asso.nordnet.fr/aramnord/que_savoir/steenvoorde_moulin_drievenmeulen3.jpg

In fact most countries had mills but the Dutch ones were the most impressive because they could both grind flower, pump water, irrigate and much more. Even Spain had mills (remember Don Guichotte). The mill you have on your picture makes me think of a wheat mill (flower) and therefore orientates me to Ukraine , the wheat attic of the former Soviet Union.

Heh heh, nice pics. I wonder if the Lighthouses in the coastal areas of those countries with them are also alike? I noticed the ones in Germany had very similar paint schems as ours does.

Sorry for being around the bend again. Im about to see if I can snag a few Brauchitsch pics.
