I only pick up a postcard at the site I'm at. It's amazing the places that don't have any. The U.S.A.F Museum in Dayton had a few but most that they did had little to do with the USAF history.

You can pick up cards relevant to the places on your itinerary from secondary sources. Targets of opportunity as it were. Not cheating.

I make a point of asking for postcards at most any place that has some reason to have people visit. Most stores are looking for sales, and postcards have massive profit margin and never go bad/out of style. I guess I'm hoping my inquiry will help make a small contribution to bringing postcards back. My son sends postcards to his friends when we travel, and they are always a hit.
Absolutely not cheating to get postcards in advance. You can of course make your own postcards from almost anything, which I'm happy to do since I always carry a book of stamps in my wallet.

I drove right past this place on a road trip last month. I literally could have pulled over and stopped in had I known. You don't get many opportunities to tell someone "I've just been to uranus" very often.

Oh, it's a good ways from here. (Relative to us puttering around St. Loser.) We head out west for same Cajun when Boss Lady gets the urge.

I can't believe you drove right past Uranus.

I'll keep an eye out, currently checking the WW2F/FPS P.O. box almost daily. I've much more time these days to get these scanned and uploaded quickly.

Not a card from me, but I've just spent a great time meeting up with Roguette Michelle Rusk and her husband in Stirling. They're over here on holiday, and visited the gin distillery conveniently situated in my street. Cliff recorded the event for posterity, so hopefully the evidence will appear soon.
First fellow ro-gew I've ever met in person.
