What's going on with you, I've been to WW2Talk twice today and had no problems at all browsing or posting. Owen, this is cruel but I have a friend with a speech impediment. He would pronounce your name as "Wessex Wyvegn"
Owen it seems that you are looking at the ghost version of the site. Your ISP, or the people your ISP rely on for this, are screwing the pooch. If there was something I could do on my end, I would. As I said in my PM to you, the internet DNS system is a temperamental bitch! Try accessing the website via this NinjaProxy.com, just type the website you want to visit (in this case ww2talk.com) in the box supplied. This should give you the most current DNS version out there. You should see the ww2talk on the new server.
Cheers Otto, but I had to rely on a proxy last year when the Greek bloke bought WW2Talk. Too much faffing about, tried to log on as myself on WW2Talk via the proxy just now and that got nowhere. I'm still narked that all my uploading this morning has gone to waste. Maybe I'll come back tomorrow. Just very dissappointed I can't share my photos with you all. A glum Owen D, and not just cos I gotta go back to work tomorrow. At least I got the 7th Sussex lad's grave in Abbeville to his Great-neice today. That made me feel better and I got a grave photo from St. Valery to someone whose asked on GWF back in May. I've made three women happy today, those two and the Mrs.
If this happened before, it sounds like your ISP is a little slow with DNS updates. The proxy is just to see if you could access the most current version, which I hope you did. It's not as good for logging into accounts, the extra step seems to trip things up. Sorry about the photos, all I can say is hang in there, you will have access soon enough.
Good work mate - I am going to Abbeville this week and was going to do this - funny enough the person I am taking to this cemetery also had a relative in 7th Royal Sussex!!
Just as a footnote, We've got WW/Owen back on WW2talk by him clicking on a very recent thread link. Might work for other passing waifs and strays so here's a link from after the server move, just in case: http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/general-stories/11849-changes-tower-london.html Cheers, Adam.
This is bloody stupid, thanks to Adams link I posted on WW2Talk today. I'd deleted the old ghost WW2Talk from My Favorites and then re-added it from the current new site. Tonight I get in click my favorites and am back to the old ghost one again. AAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHH!!! EDIT I've clicked the link in this thread that worked this morning , now all it gives me is the ghost site saying invalid thread or something like that. QUOTE No Thread specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the administrator
Sorry Owen! I don't get why you are still going to thew old site. I'll contact the old owner and have him delete the previous website. Maybe if the DNS doesn't have an option, it will send you directly to ww2talk.
Otto, I can see why people like you can earn lots of money knowing about the internet and computers in general unlike plebs like me who have to be told what to do and then still can't get a result. As I have been to the new version and posted on it today surely I must can't be the ISP anymore? My caches are cleaned many times over, I just don't get it? Biazzare, eh?
It's not your fault Owen. When you access the internet, your computer sends out a general request for information to another server somewhere out in the wild, (in this case ww2talk). Your request will take "hops" through several computers along the way, for example it takes me exactly 10 "hops" to get from my parent's home in Toronto to the ww2f.com server. Every DNS computer along the way must know where to send the data you gave them. When a server is changed, all the computers should me updated, and they usually are updated with the new DNS info. In this situation it seems that at least one of the DNS computers along the way has the old information, and your request is being sent to the old website. Most likely, the problem is with one of the early DNS servers your request will hit, such as your own ISP. This is of course very simplified, but you get the idea. The fact that you got through for a short time is actually a good, it means that things are getting corrected, as slow as it might be happening. Just have a little patience, and know that once the issue is corrected, you won't have to worry about it ever again.
Can someone send me a link to one of my posts from yesterday. From my Lorne Marr ASH Can thread or my What to see at Bruneval thread. If I was able to post there yesterday surely I should be able to get there via same post or not??? I've been there by Proxy today and posted but that is not ideal. This is really bugging me.
Here you go Owen, links to the most recent posts in each thread: http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/real-life-experiences/6983-lorne-marr-sh-canada-story-2.html#post112898 http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/world-...splays-rat-tobruk-memorabilia.html#post112901
Ho hum, well at least I'm not going to the ghost site this time. All I get for both links is, Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage Cheers for trying Otto.
Otto, what do you see when you click thise link? http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/real-life-experiences/6983-lorne-marr-sh-canada-story-2.html#post112898 The last post is on 01-09-07. It's when I posted on the ghost site but what is the date of the last post when you view it?
