The (maybe not so) logical pair for the Modern Army thread.

One would expect mostly sci fi items, but we shall see. :D

    Infantry:
4 divisions: Special Weapons (experimental), Assault, Infiltration (snipers etc), Explosives (engineering)

    Armour:
4 divisions: Walker (AT-ATs, AT-STs, Scarabs), Artillary (F.A.T.s, Howitzers, Ion Cannons), Heavy (Scorpion Tanks, Goliths), Medium (M4-6, M1-A2)

    Naval Force (Sea):
3 Fleets: Carrier (Carriers, Missile Cruisers), Attack (Super-heavy Destroyers), Support (Heavy Battleships)

    Naval force (Space)
4 Fleets: Landing (Large Transports with Heavy Landing Craft), Attack (Battleships, Blockade Runners), Infiltration (Cloak Craft, Fast Transports), Support (MAC Gun Platforms, Boomers, HALO Facilities)

    Airforce:
4 Fleets: Bomber (F-117V, B-2V), Attack Helicopter (AH-64D, Angry Pelicans), Fighter (CF-105Vs, Talon Slipfighters, F-16 Blackbirds), Gunship (XA-15, Super Cobras)

AMny can also be put into different roles if needed.
IE, the Blockade Runners are also effective support craft- 36 heavy laser cannons...that can all be brought to bear on the same target

If we go far enough into the Future, I'd like to have the Imperial Armies from Star Wars. With their Fleet back-up, obviously. ;)

    More realistically?

Soldiers with more & lighter body armour. Comms headsets that can link every soldier in a unit and give a HUD dealing with situational awareness.

Ideally, weapons that are able to pierce the body armour. ;)

More IFVs, with a good range of weapons (like the Bradley - gun & missile) - probably including SAMs

Tanks with a non-manned turret, allowing a bigger gun & smaller height.

    SPGs and SP rocket-launchers

Don't the British army already use headsets like that? also for the body amour weapons such as the MP7 and P90 are designed to pierce body armour?

Laaaazers. Although technically lasonic weapons are even more limited in range than projectile gun b/c of the atmospheric 'damage'

    That white dot is blinding...

My infantry of the future would carry composite modular rifles that could be quickly modified to fit a variety of roles. A sniper can convert his rifle into its assualt rifle or SMG configuration and have a suitable self-defense weapon. Armoured fighting vehicles will include specialized tank destroyers, IFVs, SPAAGs, SPGs, and engineering types. Ground and air unmanned reconnaissance vehicles shall take the look-see so that the soldiers and AFVs aren't stumbling into a beehive. Artillery will play an ever powerful role on the battlefield, though heavily supplemented with mobile rocket launchers.

The navy will have to depend on the severity of the situation, because a navy is expense. So is all the above, but it is used more.

Imaginably: Imperial Fleets, X-wing fighters, those huge walkers on Hoth, speeders (types depending on terrain) as scout vehicles, Clone Turbo tanks, and stormtroopers.
Realistically: stealth aircraft for my air force, stealth ships for the navy, stealth everything. STEALTH!!!!!!! Okay, maybe not all stealth, but as much stealth as realistically possible and logically needed. Zhukov's composite modular rifles and Ricky's no-man tank turrets and weapon ranges are hard to turn down, and, uh, that's about all I can think of. Sorry, Ricky and Zhukov, but I'm bad at thinking up stuff for myself. I should probably also make up a long-range, semi-auto weapon that has a sniper rifle scope.

(I should explain that that was not a Moderator/Admin request)

It is just a huge white expanse, with no picture involved, that breaks the page and makes the topic harder to read.

or maybe the Core and Arm units from Total Annihilation, especially the Vulcan cannons...

For a more serious approach, i would go with a purely defensive army (i'm a turtler in most strategy games) with plenty of armor and artillery
