The mines were supply dumps for ISIS. That was the goal, remove that material from use. The shattered terrorists were just happy chance.

I'm only exulting in the cost per death. In 2016 alone, the previous administration executed over 1000 strikes in 5 countries, resulting in only 1500 deaths. About 1.5 deaths per strike. This is what you get when you are more worried about how it will look, than it how effective it will be. And that hesitant use of force (though it can't be counted) certainly resulted in an untold number of deaths inflicted on innocents by the Jihadis that survived these feeble strikes.

They have declared war, so let them have war. Real war.

I don't have any problem with a bunch of right bastards experiencing a very horrific death. They went entirely too quickly, however.

Well, we have been moderating war since August 9, 1945...I don't think we are imbeciles for doing so.

I don't see any nukes being dropped. Anything short of NBC warfare should be on the table for these cockroaches.

I like my enemies killed with mid-range bombs of acceptable yield. I don't want to over-kill any of them. Too small and they won't be dead enough, which isn't nice either. From now on all airstrikes will be conducted with Goldilocks bombs that are juuuuuuust right.

A minor quibble or perhaps a question.
For AP or penetrating rounds I thought the fuse and/or detonator tended to be at the rear end along with the fins. That way it isn't destroyed on initial impact.

The bomb is designed for air burst. Moab: Massive Ordnance Air Blast.

From the news stories I thought it was a penetrator weapon. Shows what happens when you depend on the media for details. Guess I (among others) got it confused with the MOP. Since it's a fuel air explosive though doesn't that mean the detonators are in the middle somewhere?

Well, maybe the detonator isn't at the tip, and maybe the 18,000 pounds of cargo in the middle is technically high explosive rather than 'Freedom' so, you may have a point. Yet, the bigger issue is that a large number of cockroaches were exterminated all at once, and at relatively low cost. :)

Nothing in there that says it destroys caves and tunnels. Confirms what I've already read.

I'm going to bet an explosion of that size would prove very effective at destroying caves and tunnels, especially in a valley.

I'd bet not. Otherwise, we we not have this hullabaloo over a body count. The bodies would be completely inaccessible without a massive industrial scale dig.

UNLESS they were the guys outside the cave when it hit.

The remains of the guys outside of the cave would not fit into a shoebox.

The two largest Pepcon explosions, which were significantly larger than the MOAB blast, only registered between 3 and 3.5 on the Richter scale.

Generals get to try the new toy and all of its systems in a real battle situation. thedonald gets to beat his chest and eat chocolate cake. NK gets a message. Nobody much gets hurt. Winning!

I had a nice chat once with a young man from Afghanistan who played HS football with my son. He said the the people of Afghanistan were once again fighting against outsiders until the enemy gives up and go home so that the Afghans could go back to fighting each other. Like it has always been. That was 15 years ago. Rumor is that he went back to fight. We're not going to win this undeclared war with the military. Banks and accountants are better equipped to stop and eradicate ISIS and the Taliban.
