    Hello,

My grandfather Mitsuo Sumida was assigned to B CO, 1st BN, 442nd RCT from APR 1943 to NOV 1945. I am attaching a few photos of him here in hopes of finding anyone who may have served with or know of someone have served with him. I am interested in tracing my military heritage, as I am currently serving in the U.S. Army.

My goal is to eventually find and compile photos of him (if there are any) from during his service in the European theatre.

Thank you for your time. FB_IMG_1522879168445.jpg

Is this his Memorial Page on the Findagrave.com website?

A while back, I started a thread on the 442nd RCT where I posted some photos I found while doing research at the Eisenhower Presidential Library. The photos were of a few soldiers from the 442nd being awarded medals. Unfortunately, none of them are your grandfather. However, I suppose you will find the thread interesting.

Thanks for the thread! That grave stone is not my grandfather's. He's buried in the veterans cemetery in our hometown in Hawaii. He also passed in 1973.

I thought that it might be as I had seen references to a Mitsuo Bill Sumida when I did a search for his name and the 442nd. I did find him listed in the Company B roster on this webpage: 442sd.org/category/442nd-organizational-chart/442-regimental-hq-company/1st-battalion/hq/b-company

He is also listed in this PDF of the Club 100 30th Anniversary Reunion program/brochure from 1972.

EPL in Abilene, KS has a collection of WWII Army Unit records that were determined to be "duplicates" of some of the records at the NARA in College Park, MD. However, when I have foraged through the files I found some things that were not duplicates. The 442nd photos were in that category.

Here are some other threads on the 442nd.

Are these photos that you own? If so, do you know the names of any of the soldiers?

No, I found them in Ebay. It seems that they were taken by the Signal Corps.
    Regards,
