"Profile conjecture of what a reconstructed HMS Hood may have looked like, c. 1942 [1849 x 359]. This is based on proposals made in December 1938 and assume she was reconstruced 1939-42. Based on subsequent discussions any reconstruction would have been somewhat later, probably from January 1942 to January 1945. The proposals included: Replacement of the 5.5-inch and 4-inch guns with 16 x 5.25-inch in eight twin mounts. Increase the number of Octuple Pom Poms from 3 to 6. Complete machinery replacement. New superstructure based on that provided for the King George V class. New Admiralty Fire Control Table Mk VII. Elimination of the 5" and 7" belt armour, and the extension of the 12" belt to upper deck level. Increasing the thickness of the upper deck over the magazines to 4" and over the machinery to 2.5". Installation of a fixed crossdeck catapult and hangars. Modification of the bulge and underwater protection system."
