No new updates. The tank foaming and sealing work is done. I ran across these recent drone video's, that provide a clear and up close view of what a Battleship Row era ship looked like. The first, is several months old. You can tell because the deck mounted AA is still there. The second, , is just a few months old. The deck guns have been removed. Ya'll take care.

It's been a long time since the last update and over 2 years since I first started this thread but finally here she goes. The Texas Foundation and the State of Texas have worked long and hard to preserve the Texas. At this point, she's buttoned up, ready, and apparently only 39 miles to go.

The latest update answers the outstanding questions, of where and when. Battleship Updates - The Battleship Texas Foundation
The Texas Foundation reports, that a shipyard in Galveston, is in the process of acquiring a drydock large enough to handle the Texas. The Foundation also reports the move date to be sometime in the first quarter of 2022. The only shipyard, in Galveston, is the same location, where the Texas was repaired back in the late 80's. It's located across the Galveston Ship Channel from the Galveston Historic Seaport Museum and cruise ship row. The only questions left are how long will repairs take and where will she make her new home. The repairs will take several months but the where is pretty obvious. Follow the tourist money and the tourist money is literally sitting across the Galveston Ship Channel, on cruise ship row.

It's been a long 2 years and the Texas is about to finish her journey.

There have been several interesting video's made since the last update. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4CrnGFZuP1ZRVMYLeKf-Iw/videos

With just days to go, the drydock is getting the keel blocks ready. This is the view from the cruise cam, which can shoot up, down, and across the channel.

At the 4:54 mark, this video explains why the drydock looks short but that's the whole thing.

6/10ths...The floating drydock was 900 feet long, now it is 480 feet. They split it trying to lift a 100,000 ton cruise ship

Here is another YOUTUBE channel that shoots in 4k. He video's ships inbound and outbound the Houston ship channel. If you reverse the course, of the KIKYO, , You are looking at the course the Texas will take before making a right hand turn into the Galveston Channel. Barring any weather problems, He'll have up close and crystal clear video of the Texas move to Galveston. I can't wait to see his footage.

I was referring to the one in my pix, ten sections needed for that BB. WWII numbers, of course.

Ladies and Gentlemen, it's showtime. I found another streaming webcam. it's located at Seawolf Park. Galveston Naval Museum
If the Webcams camera operators are willing, Emerald cam will be able to show the Texas as she rounds Seawolf Park and heads into the channel. Cruise cam will be able to give us amazing pictures of the drydocking of the Texas.

Waiting to see how much overhang the old gal has in that wee corset of a drydock. :D

They've got it figured out, hopefully, but how do you hang a 100 ft section of old old Battleship and not have any support under the hanging section?
Maybe, they don't. They pull the Texas in bow flush with the end of the dock. Raise the Texas enough to push one of the other drydocks under the aft overhang and very carefully raise them both.

About 2 X 45 foot sections front and back.

Ships are constructed to take that kind of stress. Waves do it constantly in Ocean waters...It's called "hogging" and "sagging".

Bingo. Most ships are designed to survive going high and dry on reef with dangly bits hanging off each end.

The Texas has been on the move for several hours. According to live updates from the ship, there have been no leakage or structural issues. Her current location is roughly half way between San Leon and the Texas City dock, with its streaming webcam Live Weather Cam | Texas City, TX
a still image from the dike webcam shows the Texas at about 5 miles distance. KHOU TV has great live coverage. The Texas is accumulating quite a large escort. [IMG]
