Australia has a healthy country music fraternity and holds the Golden Guitar awards in Tamworth every year: Like Everything in Australia, we do things our way to suit us... We have our own country music legends. My favourite, close to my heart is "Slim Dusty" - A national treasure. Born in Kempsey in 1927 and died in 2003. He sings the songs the Jackaroos know, very country, very Australian. You probably have little interest but you will be glad you lent an ear to old Slim. Heres a taste: or Another person to study if you want to understand Australia of yesterday - Thanks for your interest Diego
I have a friend who is a geologist in Oz, he works in the iron fields out west. Man has a sick mind, one reason I like him.
Thanks for sharing CAC, Slim Dusty ain't too shabby, but I'll see your Slim Dusty and raise you Hank Jr.
I'll see that and raise ya both a Roger Miller. And just for good measure, true American! Country ; My Favorite song.
If I’m being honest he is already on my play list…Out in the West Texas town of El Paso, I fell in love with a Mexican girl… I always wondered though…she didn’t notice him in the beginning and some how she was in love with him before he died…?
She did but wouldn't admit it until it was too late. Been there , heard that. You guys have hit my weak spot. True Country only comes from Nashville Tennessee. And the band must have a fiddle and a banjo or it ain't Country ! And as long as I'm divulging a deep dark secret. The first woman I ever fell in Love with.
My wife and I go to Nashville to bar crawl and listen to music fairly regularly. A lot of the musicians that are playing on Broadway in the little bars become big names within a year or two. The music there is still pretty good, because the musicians are struggling, and they have passion. The big country music isn't what it used to be, what gets recorded is now usually chosen by big corporate labels that are more into formulaic music than looking for the really good stuff. It's been going downhill for probably 20 years or more. There are a lot of country singers that are actually avoiding dealing with big Nashville Corporate music. Biak, if you ever get the chance to take the wife to the Ryman Auditorium for a concert, move heaven and earth to do so. The acoustics in that place are otherworldly. It hosted the Grand Ole' Opry for over 30 years. Last time we were there we saw Warren Haynes (Allman Brothers, Government Mule, David Allan Coe, and Dickie Betts Band) and Jamey Johnson (former Marine Corps Infantryman and one of the country music renegade artists). I know you can't tell from the audio on this video but he has the most amazing voice I have ever heard, when heard in person. Maybe the corporate types will wake up and realize that people want real, passionate music. They did get a shock when back in August an unknown, unsigned singer/songwriter Oliver Anthony released his song "Rich Men North of Richmond" on social media, and it went viral. Climbing to number 1 on the Billboard Top 100 in like three days. The corporate folks fell all over themselves trying to sign him and offered him tens of millions of dollars ($50 million from CMT!). He said, no thanks, he wanted to pursue his music. Good for him.
Holy Jesus I hope not. They've done enough with auto-tune, making up some dumb stick thing called 'Country Rap' (gag just thinkin about that one) and pretty much already ruined any chance of me following today's version of Country. My daughter was the wedding photographer of a guy named Joe Diffie. I've mentioned that a few times I'm sure She had known Tara for a few years and Tara asked her to go to Nashville, all expenses paid plus fees,. My daughter said Joe was just a regular guy and I was looking forward to meeting him. Sadly that didn't happen. They were married at the Museum of Country Music and my Jen took a bunch of pictures scattered around the place. My kind of Country music is what Joe wrote about. He did the whole gamut but is mostly known for a few: John Deere Green, Prop Me Up Beside The Jukebox, Third rock from the Sun and ,Uh , well maybe more than a few ! Below is one of my favorites. I've danced to most of his "bar songs" but this one is a " sit your ass down and listen! Song.
Sweet talked my daughter into sending me a couple pictures. But can't upload. Not through copy & paste or my usual way of uploading from the tablet ?? I'm going to try one more thing. If you have FB it might come up ? Log into Facebook
Must be my isp (which is a bunch of gummy worms fighting snails) Took me two minutes to logon and you might have a few extra "Likes" since I wasn't sure it was working at all.
I talked to Afghanistan in 05' on my cellphone and didn't have a time lag or delay. Of course I was living close to a metropolitan area versus a one bar reception desert.
Nato code names are assigned from a random list. During Desert Shield I had to tell the kids at Purdue that SCUD didn't mean anything, it was just picked from the list by a computer algorithm. (Actually, it was a random number generator program that spit out numbers and those numbers were matched to a word on the list by humans.)
