Hi everyone, At a flea market I just picked up a 1/32 Bf109E-3 kit made by Matchbox. The kit is dated 1983 but still looks like it is a decent kit for some detailing and all. The decals that are with the kit are looking REAL bad - wrinkly, crinkly, rolled up at the ends. I am not sure if I should trust these decals or not. What do you think? Just to be safe I have been searching around for replacement decals and have found some good sets from Aeromaster and Eagle Strike. Do any of you know some other good sources for decals for the scale and plane I have? I am also thinking about experimenting with some photo etch on this. Eduard has a set for the 1/32 Tamiya and Hasegawa BF-109's. I know that not all manufacturers made their kits quite identical in scale even tho they are supposed to be the same scale. And that the kits probably assemble a little differently with how each company decides to make the different kit parts. But I figure the photo etch detailing sould be really close that with a little tweaking here and there it should work out OK. Any advice, tips, suggestions would be welcome. Thanks, Wayne
On the decals, I wouldn't bother at 1/32nd scale. I would suggest using adhesive backed mylar and making stencils for most of them. The only decals you would then need are common ones like the fuel triangles and stenciling that are available in a number of sets on the market.
Thanks T.A. I can't believe I hadn't thougt of going that route. I did a 1/32nd Tamiya Zero and painted on the main markings. Those were a little easier tho being simple circles. Hand doing the markings on the 109 would be a lot of fun That just may be my answer to the decal problem. Thanks, Wayne
Another answer is try an aftermarket set such as this one offered by Eagle Strike. They are for E-3 during the Battle of Britain. Here is their website: http://www.aeromaster.com/
