Did Hitler or any of the Axis leader ever use doubles? Are there any photos of the doubles themselves? I know of the one that looks like Hitler but it was never confirmed that he was a double for Hitler. Also, I remember the movie "The Eagle Has Landed" where a Churchill double was used. Did the Churchill or Stalin ever use doubles?

I don't think Stalin used one, mainly because he was able to "find" these assasins before they were able to commit the 'crime'....but that's a whole new thread all together ;)

Churchill, in my opinion, would have been hard to find a double for (with that bull-dog face :D ), but I remember reading somewhere that he did have one.....

Mussolini (even though he wasn't brought up [IMG] ) never had any doubles either, but they would have been useless seeing as he never went out in public whithout heavy protection.

As for Hitler, I have no clue, so I'm afraid I'm a bit useless on that matter. [IMG]

I think almost all the big government leaders and generals or marshals have doubles. I even think it is very normal.

Saddam definately has the most doubles that I know of....

Now they are questioning if he is really in total control, or if it is actually his son running it while he makes the public appearances....

I do not think any of those had doubles. Montgomery did have one. That's all I know.

It was rumored that Hitler had doubles but--I really doubt it. There is that famous foto of a man with a Hitler type mustache--wearing well worn clothes and darned socks.

Though he resembles Hitler--you can easily see that he was not Hitler. His weight was not the same--nor was his age as close to Hitlers as you would think.

Not sure where the foto might be posted but, ive seen it in probably about 2 dozen books. I think the excellent book: "The Last battle" I think it is in that book.

Write-up and pictures for Monty's double (Clifton James) at http://www.rapc.co.uk/articles/monty.htm

Unfortunately the Pay Corps have encoded spoilers in the site making lifting the photo hard. References to David Niven are correct but omit to say he was with the Commandos in Combined Operations.

Niven was not just a 'back home' officer, he was decorated for considerable active service but refused to speak or write about this.
