Yeah, that's where I got my rough-out boots. In fact, that may be the ONLY place to get them. And they make an amazing variety. Most places just make the basics. They have EVERYTHING! Navy stuff, dress uniforms....etc etc....
very cool site....I like the dress uniforms the best. Speaking of reinactors....anybody do that type of stuff? only WW2 or others as well? Il DUCE
I also reenact, although on the German Side. The avatar I have is not me although I wish it was! The link to my unit's website is here:http://www.25panzergrendiv.com Langemann
Nice site, I do SS re-enactment, I am in my avatar. I recommend it to anyone who is interested, here is my units public site: www.kompanie1.co.uk By the way, if anyone is interested I am also starting to do Soviet re-enactment as well.
Those are amazing sites...all of them So far I havn't been able to find anything of the sort up here in Canada (brrrr!) I'd love to get into it. One day, when I'm rich (I wish), I'll have to visit all of you guys and watch your reinactments...they look as if they'd be amazing. Thanks, Il DUCE
Honestly, all of the reenactments I've been to have been extremely hokey. The germans are always great, but the GIs want to play "John Wayne" (sorry for the thread crossover, but that's typically what it's called ). GIs also typically look TERRIBLE. Not a spot of mud on them and lots of fake stuff, like wal-mart work boots. Last time I was out, I saw one GI drinking from a tan platic desert storm canteen, if this gives you any idea of what I'm talking about. I take the time to make my own k-rats and these clowns eat slimjims and cokes (that they have in their musette bags). BUT, like I said, the Krauts are always excellent. They put more into is for some reason. Not quite sure why.
I still think it would be interesting to see one one day, even if they aren't the greatest. Thanks for the input though Doc. I can tell that you take it seriously. I'll be sure to let you all know if I find one up here in Western Canada.... IL DUCE
I have to say I agree doc, we always take the mickey out of the yanks cos we wade through streams and so on if its necessary (actually last week at an event i ended up clambering in/over/through a sewage outlet to the river severn) but the yanks will do anything not to get their kit dirty. Personally I think in combat it looks and feels so much better when it is tatty and worn. It can be soooooo funny though when a bunch of GI's turn up with creases in their trousers etc. The food thing isn't much of an issue here as we often end up eating whatever is available, normally a burger or something in private, but it isnt often you will see a Yank sitting eating proper k-rats where as you will frequently see Grenadiers 'living the dream' sitting sharing some sausage, cheese, a bottle of water (in a proper bottle of course) and maybe come captured chocholate. It is an interesting experience i think many people miss.
