It seems that the propaganda forces are busy working their magic to show the Herioc Allied troops and the evil Iraqi troops who generally seem to be reported as regime security troops rather than regular troops. I dont think that they have shot them but then by the same token I would not be surprised to find out if they had!!! The problem is I find it harder to believe anything shown on the news and become increasingly skeptical of what our governments are telling us.
Well, I agree that I was a bit shocked when I first posted this and I am not justifying this agression or the war, and even less I am encouraging anyone to take any measures against anybody; certainly not repraisals and certainly not bloody. But that image was very clear. The lorry's door was opened and full with blood. Then, some three metres from there, the corpse of a man, with a shot in the head. And there is not a bit a blood between the lorry's door and the corpse Besides, the man is laying there, while cars and other vehicles pass by and no one takes care of the corpse, at least puting a blanket on it!
There's a famous photograph of a dead Confederate sniper lying among some rocks from the Civil War. This picture was a crappy non-interventionist fraud. War photographers frequently set up shots by moving bodies around, switching weapons, adding bodies, shooting dogs, etc. As far as the photo Heartland posted, this picture has received a lot of coverage and ignited a lot of debate. The American argument, that it was a "trick" has been widely criticized overseas as simply untrue, although, I haven't looked into it very much. [ 28. What I was saying about Guantanamo bay is that no matter what the men there have done, they do have the right to trial, legal representation and, in the case of foreign citizens, extradition to their home nation (if there is a treaty allowing it). They have not recieved these basic rights and hense the USA is in the wrong. As for the photograph, those are British soldiers standing near a pit with two dead Iraqis and a white flag, I think the point being made was that by the same logic someone else was useing, those two soldiers should be tried for war crimes, however I am inclined to believe that the Iraiqis either attempted a trick or were shot by accident, then again at cadets the regulars who often instruct us make comments when talking about treatment of prisoners along the lines of 'we fight through the position and kill everyone, dont worry about prisoners, you dont want to do the paperwork and you would only have to feed them', I am beginning to wonder how serious they are.
It's pretty simple to come up with all sorts of accusations for both sides. I wonder though if we as westerners have really thought about war from an easterners point of view ?
I agree entirley, showing off prisoners may be a big propaganda coup but it is also a great tradition in the easym showing off your prowess in battle by parading those you capture and humiliating them. There is also the whole 'martyr' issue, that is that men who fight and die in combat with the laughably called 'coalition of the willing' are going to end up being seen as martyrs by many of the other eastern peoples.
There is another point to the showing of pow's on tv... Once shown to the world, the world knows where they are. How many coalition pow's were killed once shown on tv in the last Gulf war? Granted still brutalised, some before their showing, and bombed out by our own forces..But once shown they cannont suddenly dissapear, not without a bloody good explanation. Id prefer to be shown, a la Nichols and Peters, who stated after the war that they both realised that even though there would be many bad days ahead and there were...they knew they had been accounted for.
Sorry Erwin lax of me.. Pilot and navigator of low level GR4 Tornado bomber shot down in attack on Iraqi runway. Both appeared on tv battered and bruised. They were tortured, not in the sense of fingernails pulled out, but smacked around, toilet tissue set alight and dropped down back of neck etc.. Bombed out of their jail when in captivity. Quite badly treated. Funny story...When shot down, ejected and this is actually where most of their visible bruising came from, the beatings were done mostly to unseen areas and feet. When landing after ejection, they found each other few hundred meters away. Peters was badly dazed and shocked, Nichols had his evasion plan ready to go until he looked around the flatlands which stretched for miles. They saw a movement on horizon which eventually turned out to be local Iraqi milita heading their way in an open truck. Nichols asked Peters what do you want to do? Nichols was reaching for his Browning pistol when Peters said dont be daft, take that out and Ill bloody shoot you myself...
I'm having the exact same problem. There is an iraqi satellite board that I can no longer access as well. Makes you wonder!
Al-Jazeera Site Experiences Hack Attack By PETER SVENSSON The Associated Press Tuesday, March 25, 2003; 12:30 PM Hackers attacked the Web site of Arab satellite television network Al-Jazeera on Tuesday, rendering it intermittently unavailable, the site's host said. The newly launched English-language page, which went live Monday, was hardest hit in a bombardment of data packets known as a denial-of-service attack. Ayman Arrashid, Internet system administrator at the Horizons Media and Information Services, the site's Web host, said the attack began Tuesday morning local time. The Web host is based in the Persian Gulf state of Qatar. The servers that host the Al-Jazeera site are in France and the United States. Only the U.S. servers were under attack, said Arrashid, so the attackers were likely in the United States. He said technicians were working to thwart the attack, but could not estimate when the site would be fully available again. Al-Jazeera, also based in Qatar, is an unusually independent and powerful voice in the Arab world whose broadcasts of U.S. prisoners and war dead has angered many Americans. The English site carries at least one picture of a dead U.S. soldier. Representatives of the broadcaster could not immediately be reached for comment. In denial-of-service attacks, hackers normally send a deluge of false requests to Web servers, overloading them and making them unavailable to surfers. --- On the Net: http://www.aljazeera.net http://english.aljazeera.net
Well, they had some pretty gruesome pictures. I personally want to see that kind of thing ... not to be gross or anything. It just kind of puts things into perspective for me.
And also because the site will provide a different perspective on things and will give some news that we don't get, whilst admittedly it is a dubious source it is worth a look.
