I am going to Europe in October and am staying for 2 months. I am making an itinerary as we speak and am planning to set foot in many countries, going from England to France, then Germany, to Austria, Holland, Poland stopping in the States and then home, and tour many famous sites. Some on the list include:-
    *Auschwitz Concentartion Camp
    *Zell Am See, Obersalzburg, Berchtesgaden-Austria
    *Berlin, Frankfurt-Germany
    *Eindhoven, Nijmegen-Holland
*Foy-Belgium (as well as a walk through the Ardennes and Bois Jacques forests)

Any other ideas are most welcome-please tell-oh yes and definetly Normandy (Utah-Omaha beaches-as well as inland towns)...

Oradour su Glane ( sorry about the spelling ), the village in France where elements of the 2nd SS Panzer Division "Das Reich" to revenge on the populace for assaults enacted by French partisans on one of their own.

    Maginot Line.

    West wall.

    Remagen Bridge.

    Arnhem.

    Just some thoughts.

    -Compiègne
    -Falaise
    -Waterloo
-How can you forget about Bastogne?
    -Hastings
    -Maginot Line
    -Champagne
    -Argonne
    -The Somme
    -Verdun
    -The Marne
    -Château-Thierry
    -Mons
    -Ypres
    -The Meuse
    -Crécy
    -Agincourt
    -Breitenfeld
    -Naseby
    -Blenheim

You're going to be spoiled for choice, Panzerknacker ! Everybody's piling in with some very good suggestions, so I'll only suggest that you DO NOT MISS the Ardennes and Arnhem. Between us all and Sommecourt we can tell you what there is to see.

And it goes without saying - if you're coming anywhere near London, get in touch.... ;)

I suggest visiting Predappio. The birth-place (and now burial/monument) of Benito Mussolini. It's about 30 minutes from my hometown, and if you go there on October 28th-ish..there's usually a parade to celebrate the March on Rome.
Just a suggestion, but be sure to take lots and lots of pictures!

Ray--have great fun on your trip and--if spending enough time in Germany--these places are aMUST visit:

Wilhelmshaven: Stay at the Botel located on Jade STrasse. Just across the strasse--is a VERY nice restaurant that served the best meal I had in Germany. I had Wienerschnitzel mit Pommes Frites.

Located about 1 KM away from the Botel--also on Jadestrasse--is a ships museum with U 10, and a former East German Navy Minesweeper--that you can tour. Also--on the Minesweepers bridge--the optics still worked and I was able to use them to get a few meat pics taken through tthe periscope. I took pics of wartime bomb damage at what used to be a factory of somekind.

Also in Wilhelmshaven--there is a Promenade just a short walk anc across the street from the Museum. It's THE nicest Promenade I have ever seen or visited. Across the water way you can also see an active Lighthouse.

Also visit Heldelberg. See the schloss there and eat at Zum Rothen Ochsen. Simply a beautiful city.

This is also a MUST see--visit Laboe--where you can tour U 995 and also the Ehrenmemorial. A few KM to the west of Laboe is Moltenort--where the Uboat Memorial is located and where Franz-josef Hawrans ashes were scattered when he passed away in 2001.
