Haha...well then...I'll be talking with you when the Cowboys play the 49th-placers...er...I mean...49-ers. (wow that was corny...)
Jets fan here. Used to be a Giants fan when i was younger (and didnt know any better). I support the home teams here - Jets, Devils, Yankees, and Nets. Hells yeah.
tsk tsk...I'm ashamed of all of you. Sure the Cowboys were bad before Parcels, but look at them now. What are they...4-1? I dunno for sure, but still...
would that not make some one who didnt support them pre-parcels and who likes them now a fair-weather fan? (though, their schedule has been relatively easily, given how bad they did last year). I admit that Parcels has turned them around, but how long can it last?
Tell you the truth, I have not been a big fan of any team since players like: Roger Staubach #12, Charlie Waters #41 and Ed "Too Tall" Jones #44?, retired from football. I remember seeing O.J. Simpson #32?, playing and doing his dodging magic as he ran and dodged the members of the other team. I have not cared much for football since Terry Bradshaw quit playing for the Steelers. Anyone remember "The Fridge" Perry? Ralphael Septien #1?, Bob Griese. Bob Griese MADE the Miami Dolphins. It's been so long a time passed since I paid attention to football. All the great players are retired. [ 03. November 2003, 07:21 PM: Message edited by: C.Evans ]
I know what you mean - the Great Players are different for every generation though. For my generation - Emmit Smith and Dan Marino and Jerry Rice and Steve Young our our childhood Greats, though Jerry Rice is still around (what an old fart!). Now adays its people like Chad Pennington, Brett Favre, the Dolphins Running Back, Rady Moss, McNabb...and the likes of them. Same with sports like Hockey. Soccer (Premiership League in England) is a little different for me. Seaman is a season or two from retirement, same with Dennis Bergkamp, but more modern Great Players are going to be Ronaldo, Pires, Thie Henry, Keane, and the such - personally, i am not a big fan of pretty-boy Beckham.
I was hoping someone would mention Emmit. Anybody watch that game against the...oh gosh...I forgot the team. I think it was the Redskins. Anyway, the players of the other team would go out into the middle of the field every time they made a touchdown and kneel, and finally Emmit ran out and tackled them. that was such a great game. I must admit, I've faded away from the cowboys ever since they got rid of the dynamic trio (Emmit, Dion Sanders, and Troy), but I'm beginning to be a believer again.
I wouldnt get your hopes up too high. In the NFL if a team does bad one season, the next season they have an easier schedule. Such as it has been for the Cowboys. True, they have been playing pretty well, but when they faced a good team, they lost.
okay, they're 6-2 and they just beat the Redskins which guarantees a chance to get into the playoffs. So they've made mistakes...heck...they fumbled twice and threw interceptions twice in the game against the Redskins, but they won. You know Parcels isn't going to let them get away with that...he's too good of a coach to blow it off. We shall see, Mussolini...we shall see...
Well I guess you can say one thing is good. Bob Greise's son is now a pro ball player. I don't know what team though.
I could be wrong, but i think he plays for the Denver Broncos. They played last night (Monday Night Football) and i think they lost to New England. BTW, i think the Jets will win their next game. Pennington is coming off a Broken and Dislocated Wrist injury, and came from behind in his first start to send the game into OT (where they lost) but i think he is going to be fired up, esp. since Moss and him are on FIRE! (Santana Moss for all of you people who are thinking of Randy Moss. Its interesting though, cus Randy Moss was Penningtons go-to guy in College from what i have heard)
Vikings fan here....Been a Vikes fan since 1970 when I was but a wee lad. They had great teams in the 1970s, even though the never won the big one. They were denied one year by the Cowboys on the "infamous" Hail Mary play...the one where Drew Pearson pushed Paul Krause down to catch the ball for the game-winning touchdown. And the penalty was called on Krause! Ridiculous!! Fran Tarkenton #10, Chuck Foreman #44, Alan Page #88, Jim Marshall #70, Carl Eller #81, Ron Yary #73, Mick Tingelhoff #53...ahh, the list goes on and on. Carl....Griese was a heck of a quarterback, but Earl Morrall was the quarterback for most of the regular season for the 1972 Dolphins (17-0.) Griese was injured and came back in time for the Super Bowl if my memory serves me correctly. (Griese's son, Brian played for the Broncos, but is now starting QB for the Dolphins...at least until Jay Fiedler get healthy.) I think alot of the credit should go to their ground attack of Larry Csonka and Jim Kiick. And the 'No-Name' Defense.....but that is IMHO. The Cowboys were playing the 49ers when Emmitt tackled the opposing player on the mid-field star....the tackled player was, of course, Terrell Owens! Mussolini....I am a huge Devils fan. I started following them in the mid-80s when I had access to Sportschannel America. I remember the days when Chris Terreri would have 60 saves, but the Devils would lose 5-2!! And those cool red and green uniforms!! (Little known fact, the Devils were originally the Kansas City Scouts. The Scouts moved west to Denver and became the Colorado Rockies. Then they moved to Jersey to become the Devils.) Anywho... LET'S GO DE-VILS!!!! [ 04. November 2003, 04:09 PM: Message edited by: Herr Kaleun ]
Herr Kaleun, How's Spergeon Wynn doing? He was QB with teh AMsterdam Admirals two seasons ago. When I was in the States last time before last ( ) I saw him QB-ing for the Vikings...Don't ask me what game, he was 3rd QB and had to play due to No.1 & 2 being injured. If I had to judge by that game it would have been the last game he ever played. He was SO nervous and, I am sorry to say, didn't play well at all... Is he still with the Vikings...???
Hi Ivan, thanks for the trip down memory lane with the added names. I was'nt positive which team Griese was on and I had thought it was the Dolphins but just was not sure. Fran Tarkenton, that name do bring back some memories. Whats the name of the big guy who does those FTD Flowers Commercials? Merlin Olsen? I wish I could remember the names to the main players on both the Cowboys and the Steelers when they came tet-a-tet in that VERY famous Superbowl game. It was the team that had Staubach and Bradshaw as the Quarterbacks. Now THAT was a game I lived for. I remember all the radio spots they played about the possible meetings of these two teams for the superbowl. It was done as a 53-5 minute skit on the radio station early in the morning and was excellent. By the way, the Cowboys won that game.
Anyonw remember a quarterback who was on the Houston Oilers nicknamed "The Snake" or just "Snake?" I can't think of his name for the life of me. I can still picture him though because he wore a beard. I'm thinking he was Ken Stabler. Anyway, I still have one of those (back when soda cans were made of steel) Pepsi Soda can with the Oliers and "Snake" on the can. I wonder how much this is worth these days? [ 04. I've been a Devils fan my entire life. My parents knew one of the Devils back in the mid-late 80's (i was but a wee one back then) but i cant remember his name. i'll have to ask them when i get a chance. Devils have always seemed to have had a problem when it comes to scoring - lol - but they can pull through in the clutch. and they arent half bad for being one of the smallest teams in the league. guys - is that tackle you are talking about the one where the guy who got hit (trying to make a defensive play) went down and broke his collar bone or something - he was hurting pretty bad - and the player who made the hit was a little hurt too - sore shoulder, but didnt want to show it cus the other player was on the ground? or am i thinking of something else?
Stevin...Spergeon Wynn is the backup quarterback for the British Columbia Lions in the Canadian football league. I really don't know how he is doing there. Yep, Wynn played against the Baltimore Ravens in Jan 2002 and he did stink up the joint! Carl.....The Snake was Ken Stabler. He played for the Oilers in 1980 and 81 I think and finished his career with the Saints. Merlin Olsen was the FDT guy. He played for the LA Rams and was part of the "Fearsome Foursome."
