Personally i've always been interested by britian and her forces in WW2. There are too many myth surrounding their effectiveness that deserve to be over turned. A close second is any army of the commonwealth.

Great Britain..Royal Navy ww2...Proffesionalism, daring, courage and more than once strategically saving the nation.

Be it convoys and Uboats, so many rescues of troops, Attacking superior odds when warranted and landing troops for final victory...

What myths were you referring to mate?

Basically the myth that the british, especially the army, were inferior to the germans and also their allies in the war. For example i'm currently writing an essay which is trying to show that while the british armoured divisions in normandy had their failings they were as easy to adapt as the americans did andthat by the end of the campaign the british were un fot front of combined arms tactics on the western front.

I go for the British Military, be it Army, Airforce Marines etc. This is simply because there is so much to know about them.

I agree with you Mahross, there are Myths that say the British were inferior in places such as Armoured and Infantry. Im trying to write an essay about the relationships between the British Army and her Allies.

A good starting point for NW Europe wold be Stephan Hart's 'Montgomery and "colossal cracks" : the 21st Army Group in northwest Europe'. This started out as his Phd thesis and provides an understanding of why montgomery fought the campiagn in the way he did and what were the military and political factors that contrained his strategic options.

Another good one is Mark Stoler's 'Allies and Adversaries' this is about the conflicts within the joint chiefs of staffs and its role in the grand alliance.

My favorite country of course is where I live, but getting back to WW 2 it would have to be Deutschland since a good part of my mother's side, familie name Baer/Hirschstein served in the Geramn armed forces. The info at the present that I have documented so far concern 2 Luftwaffe pilots.
I do find this hard because my fathers side did serve in the US Army and Navy and I am immensely proud of their hard fought efforts and again find this of major interest......

Well, even though I voted USA because she rules I would have to say i love Poland more because I am almost 100% Polish heritage. The Polish, although conquered, were more substantial in their partisan activities than the French and maybe even the Russians. I picked the Marines because they were the main ones who fought and died in the Pacific.
