Why is he filming his new movie about Alexander the Great in Thailand? The only thing I can think of is elephants? Any thoughts on this?

I havn't the slightest idea, although I was thinking that (honest!)

Does seem to have an excellent cast though:

    Alexander: Colin Farrell
    Ptolemy I: Anthony Hopkins
    Olympias: Angelina Jolie
    King Philip II: Val Kilmer
    Hephaestion: Jared Leto
    Roxane: Rosario Dawson
    Cassander: Jonathan Rhys-Meyers
    Antiginous: Ian Beattie
    Young Ptolemy: Elliot Cowan
    Craterus: Rory McCann
    Young Alexander : Connor Paolo
    Director: Oliver Stone

here's where I got the info...maybe it'll have some ideas as to the film location???
    Info on the movie

First of all, it is NOT a film by Martin Scorsese... —fortunately! It is by Oliver Stone... —which means good but very long and heavy political film... [IMG]

And second, it is an AWFUL cast!

First of all, Colin Farrel is not a good a actor and doesn't have the physics of Alexander —too tall and not blond and blue-eyed...

Second, Anthony Hopkins should play Aristotle, not Ptholemy, who was Alexander's age. I suposse that he's going to tell the story when he's old and already king of Egypt... if not: [IMG]

Val Kimer as Philippus? Well... not the best, but not so bad... Anjelina Jolie? For God's sake, she's such a bad actress and Olympia is such a complicated character... [IMG]

Did I say Val Kimer was alright? NO! It's even worse than Angelina...! [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

    Yeah...

Here you have your Alexander, blond No. 5...

    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

A children's watercolour set could have made a better blond than that... [IMG]

Now I'm mad. They spoiled my day. They bloody ruined my favourite historical character! Damned you Hollywood!

Yeah well, Kilmer and Voigt's daughter are second string actors, but didn't we already discuss this in the past Freddy? Remember the optimum choice for Alex? ;)

Give her a chance... Tomb Raider remarkably spoiled her reputation, but it was not her... it was the script. She did not have any chance whatsoever to act well - the deadpan "f*** me"-gaze was mandatory.

Angelina can do what she wants so long as she wears those shorts.

Anthony Hopkins can also do what he wants so long as he wears trousers :D

No comments, Nine... Hope De Laurentis' film about Alexander will fix Stone's piece of crap...

I never insulted him, Ducetta. He's a very good actor. And that's why he should play Aristotle, not a general of Alexander's age! [IMG] He's too good actor for the rest of the cast...

Whether she's a good actress or not, tell me who's going to believe that she's the mother of Collin Farrell?

    It's a three-penny cast!

It's shameful that such a good director chooses such a bad cast —except for Sir Anthony, of course, who should have rejected the offer... [IMG]

I've done some research on the film since my last post. And Hopkins chose the script because he enjoys the historical aspect of the film, as well as history in general (go figure!!!)

Still, after reading into it, I now have to agree with Friedrich, he shouldn't have taken the role. Ah well, when I make as much money as he does, and become friends with him  then I'll complain. Until then, there's not much I can do about it :D

"Troy" seems very good to me. But let's see how they spoil one of the most important books of World's Literature...

Ah Homer's Illiad, which is nothing to do with the Simpson's and where Ajax is not a household cleanser.

It this still read in school?

I had to read the "Illiad" when I was in senior high school. But fortunately I had read it already and make quite some comments about it. A very easy 'A' on my test.

Now, if I was Literature teacher instead of History, then I'll definately ask my students to read it. [IMG]

But now they're reading some paragraphs from "Das Kapital" and "Communist Party Manifesto", along with some Hegel, Nietzsche and Fichte. Can't forget about a bit of Wagner's music... [IMG]
