The FA have sacked coach Steve McClaren and his assistant Terry Venables following England's failure to qualify for Euro 2008.

A hastily-arranged FA board meeting at Soho Square rubber-stamped McClaren's departure after just 18 games in charge, the shortest tenure of any coach in the post.

Thats because he was tactically inept and had no idea what his best team or formation was, everyone knew he was rubbish before he got the job apart from the buffoons who run the English FA.

When he left his club Middlesborough to manage England they were glad to see the back of him for the above reasons !!

Still he walks away with about 4 Million so not a bad years work for being a complete failure !!

Sorry I get excited about this but as I am a Finn....I hope the big teams do not let him go just because he´s from Finland. I know he would never have played so long for Bolton if he was, say, Swedish or Norwegian.

The man played against Portugal and Man Utd last week and neither scored against him...

    ;)

    ---------------

Bolton chief Gary Megson says he wants keeper Jussi Jaaskelainen to extend his stay at the Reebok Stadium.

However, with the Finn's contract due to expire next summer - it appears the Trotters boss has a tough battle to convince the 32-year-old to stay put.

Jaaskelainen has just been named Finnish Player of the Year and a host of clubs around Europe are checking on his situation.

Several Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, are also known to be interested and they are all only too aware of Jaaskelainen's talents.

However, there are also clubs from across the continent, among those Internazionale - who are also keen and could open talks in January.

But Megson is hopeful he might be able to persuade Jaaskelainen to stay.

"Jussi is one of the best keepers in Europe. We'll sit down when the time is right," he said.

How about WERDER BREMEN'S (!) win over Real Madrid this past week. We were without Diego, Torsten Frings, Tim Borowski, and Tim Wiese, and we stuck it too that Galactico scum!

btw Kai, Petri Pasanen played well, as always :)

Big day tomorrow (Sunday, DEC 16) in the Premiership League. Four Titans are clashing!

    Arsenal v. Chelsea
    Man Utd. v. Liverpool

Four of the top 20 teams in Europe I'd say. Don't know much about the Utd/Reds game (Utd should win that one given recent form) but Arsenal are going to have a real tough one against Chelsea. Fabregas, Hleb, and Flamini are all out for Arsenal with injuries (Fabregas being one of the best midfielders in the world, and hands down the best 20 year old in the world). The good news is that RVP (Robin van Persie) is back after an injury with the Holland Nat'l team though not in top form. Should be a good match though.

    Yep!

Great football today. It is Liverpool´s home game so it should be their advantage, but everything depends on how the stars of both teams succeed in their play.

Arsenal and Chelsea both have done well lately so that is a tough one as well.

I think a little more pressure is on Chelsea and Liverpool as they "cannot lose" if they wish to continue their race for the Championship.

I was shocked to see Werder go out against the Greeks....Didn't expect that.

Petri had a long history of injury while at Ajax, but he is still highly regarded. Yes....at least we still have the youth program!

To be honest I am happy with UEFA cup football after the new year, I know that Werder can win that competition.

we're level with Bayern Munich on 36 points going into the Winterpause, thats good enough for me

Arsenal dominated and had a good win, 1 - 0 over Chelsea though the goal was a bit lucky. The way i see it though, from what i read, they had plenty of chances to seal the deal so it worked out in the end.

Man Utd. beat Liverpool 1 - 0 on their only shot of the first half in a game that Liverpool dominated - except for that corner where no one picked up Rooney, who got the ball to Tevez who put it away.

Arsenal and ManU winning, perhaps not surprise results in the end, but if you think all teams have several great goal scorers amazing " George Graham" results...

Well everyone expected Arsenal to finish sub-top 4 this year since they didn't make any big signings over the summer after trading away Henry to Barcelona. Not to mention the majority of their players are under the age of 24 - no one knew where the goals would come from.

I think its fair to say that Arsenals youth system is the best in the world, with Wenger having a killer instinct eye for young talent. Look at this way - Patrick Viera, undisputedly the worlds best midfielder, was replaced by an 18 year old two years ago who now at the age of 20 is top 5.

I remember the old rules in England with Foreign and Assimilated players. England DID produce a larger base of players back then.

As for regulating the intake of foreigners, I ok with that. It would have an effect on homegrown talent, but on the national level it might also mean that the three lions had several players playing on the same club side.

I saw a program about the insane intake of African talent to France. Most of the players ended up outside of football. A right tragedy. Some of the agents working to get the players were compared with slavers.

I agree with the concerns above. However, agents don't work in a vacum. They operate the way they do because they are allowed to by the FA, FIFA and the clubs they do business with. They are all institutionally corrupt. As for the foreign rule I think we have to be extremely careful because when a player moves from Scotland or indeed Wales to England it is classed as an international transfer. For example, Cardiff City to Spurs is an International transfer.
