I saw the update on that story Gordon and it all happen back in September it was handled badly by the school and the police. Clear cut case of going over the top too much reaction not enough sitting down and talking to resolve the problem. [IMG]

That headmaster is a bloody asshole, what that boy took with him looked pretty balanced, fruit and all, certainly not a megaburger with fries!

I have a war on my hands when I try to have my kids eat a bleeming apple!

The headmaster?!! Hell, the whole staff, and rof that matter the government itself, is insane! Since when should the government, or any of its minions, dictate what anyone should eat?
Asking citizens to eat healthy is one thing; dictating to them what they can eat is not only stupid, it is paternalism at its absolute worst. This is petty beyond any reason.
All I can say is the world needs more wood chippers....

    First story.

Well nothing like kicking up a stink some six years ahead of the games or too put it another way get a nice early start. I am more concerned about how much debt this country will be in after the games which will affect everyone and not just a few muslims.

    Second story.

As far as I know PETA is an American organisation which over the years has become very out spoken and has very radical view point. I don't think they are in any way a major problem too us, after all they are on the other side of the Atlantic or as you Americans call it the pond.

Slightly O/T but many will remember Minister for Sport Richard Caborne ( 'Dick' to his friends... ) crowing just before the successful Olmpics bid that Wembley Stadium was 'coming in on time...and on budget'.

There's a possibility it may now open in 2007 and the final 'real' cost is likely to be £860m.

    The original 'budget' ? £458m.

    Emigrate before 2012.....

    Martin,

That is just the start of the bill, I am wondering about the final cost to this country when it's all over. At the moment the government and us the consumers are in major debt granted 2012 is six years off and the whole situation could change. I just hope it's for the better.

WTF, the last Olympic Games coincided with the Cowabunga Festival and no one seemed to notice.

A curious side effect is that the longer I read this thread the more expletives I employ :D

I had noticed, ZA! I don't feel so embarrassed myself now. ;)

    Martin,
Good point. The Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh in 1986 nearly bankrupted the city. They were eventually bailed out and the debts squared.....by Robert Maxwell!

    Richard,
Problem is that there are enough gullible twats in this country to treat everything PETA say as gospel-that's where it all goes wrong.

    On PETA:

Last year PETA animal shelters euthanized approxmately 90% of the animals turned in to them. The obstensive grounds for this action was that they did not have the room to house, feed, and care for the number of animals received and that the cost of this was too high. Note, that PETA has between $25 and $35 million in cash reserves.

PETA has given between $250,000 and $500,000 to the Animal Liberation Front (ALF). ALF is listed in the top ten FBI domestic terrorism groups for their violent and criminal acts against animal horitculture firms and research labs using animal testing. Thus, PETA supports terrorism of a sort.

PETA and the Vegan movement are also very closely aligned. The Vegans have a schools outreach program to try and convert students to vegitarianism. Watch out for them. Two leading Vegans in Arizona were recently sent to prison for child abuse for allowing their children to basically starve on a fructarian diet.

The more you know about these groups and their insanities the easier it is to fight them. Facts trump opinion and emotion which is about all these groups have to go on.

Gordon, did you see the one about Councils to be given sweeping new powers to come in to your home and have a good look around. If this becomes law there may be a way to stop them, greet them on the door step smoking.
