I dont care about what religous leader say or do. I beleive that they are the real ignorants. Unfortunately billions have been following their words for centuries, killing and torturing in the name of Allah, God, Jesus or Jehovah.
I see the Pope was in charge of coving up perverts in the Catholic Church before he became Pope so it's business as usual.
Source? </font>[/QUOTE]BBC Programme Panorama last night there was nothing new that we all didn’t know already. You can watch it on the web from here Panorama
No, bussiness are not as usual. And no, Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger was not involved in such things. Not only, during 25 years in charge of the Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith, he was responsible for the cannonical processes of many sexual abusers, some of whom were laicised and brought before secular justice and who are now rotting in jail. You cannot blame him for what cardinal Law and others might have done. Not even in the case of father Marcial Maciel, the founder of the Legionnaires of Christ, whose case was covered up by five consecutive Popes and the former Secretary of State, Angelo Cardinal Sodano. What the BBC and other 'secular' media won't tell you is that cardinal Ratzinger, during Good Friday of 2005, provoked a scandal within the Church by saying boldly: 'Lord, forgive Your Church, because it's covered in a sheet of filth. And forgive many of your shepards, who are not but wolves!'. Then, since he raised to the See of Saint Peter, he has shown no tollerance on sexual abuse cases. First, he chose William Joseph Levada (former Archbishop of San Francisco, famous for his thoughness on sex offenders) as his successor in the Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith. Second, he rewarded Séan Patrick O'Malley, Archbishop of Boston, with a scarlet biretta because of his immense efforts to re-build his diocese by being very severe with his priests, humble and comprehensive with the victims and bold with the public. And last, but not least, he smashed the Legion with a heavy hammer, by forcing father Maciel into retirement and forbidding him to exercise his ministry. And that are the three most viisible cases, and he's just beginning. Well, the Catholic Church has long ago given up the path of violence and, on the year 2000, unlike many religious (and most world governments and other groups), asked forgiveness for its crimes and tried to ammend Herself. Now, at least this Pope's strategy was successful (not to mention that he's been one of the very few bold enough to condemn fudamentalism with strong words): he managed to bring many Muslim leaders to the table. http://zenit.org/english/

I dont like it when religious leaders get involved in politics and peoples daily lives. I hate the regimes that Iran or Saudi Arabia have. I dont like it when an Iranian cleric calls United States "evil" or when Pope claims that Turkey should not be let into the E.U. I beleive religious leadership should be symbolic like the British Royal Family. They should say things like "Merry Chrismas!" or "Holy Ramdan!". No more. Regards.
well you may not agree but you will not keep religiousity out of Politics, espeically in the mid-east now and or in the future. Personal opinion the German Pope should of stuck to his guns without an apology, mid-east Crusades speeches or not. Getting real sick of the soft attitude the world is taking on evil ........ and the heads are going to fall better yet have a .....
"The Turkish Airlines Boeing 737-400 with 113 people aboard was hijacked Tuesday during a flight from Tirana, Albania, to Istanbul, Turkey. It landed in the Adriatic port city of Brindisi in southern Italy after Italian air force fighter jets escorted the aircraft there." http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061004/ap_on_re_eu/italy_hijacked_plane Another crazy Turk, at least he was not inteding to assasinate Pope Benedict XVI. He just wanted help from him for political asylum. You might remeber Mehmet Ali Agca, he tried to assassinate Pope John Paul II in May 13, 1981. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mehmet_Ali_A%C4%9Fca What should we do with our nations crazy people to keep them away from Pope?
Are you sure when your M.A.Agca made that assassination attempt on J.P.II, it was a Turish problem? For all I know, he was in fact directed by the Bulgarians (=KGB) who chose for this instance for their convenience a tool from Turkey, while they could have picked someone from Samoa or Zimbabwe. I don't know of anyone annoyed at Turkey 'per se' over this matter. I for one have no problem with Turkey joining the EU, quite the contrary, with T. on the East end and my country on the West end of the Mediterranean, together we'll rule the world
You are right Turkish authoroties had nothing to do with assassination. Before that M.A. Agca killed a journalist in Turkey. He was a member of a fascist group. He claims that he is the "Messiah". He is either mentally sick or very smart. And this new guy who hijacked a plane, he claims that he is christian. I watched an interview made with the guys family, they say he was a faithful muslim and he used to visit mosque often. I guess this new guy is up to something astonishing. I am pleased that you have no problem with Turkey joining the E.U. I see you are from either Spain or Portugal. And about ruling the world, Turkey has a veeeery long way to go
perhaps this is why the middle east is in trouble http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m160/raj-rif/cid_001d01c6dfc3949cd24013bf6a58hom.jpg
Well, I am so sorry, but Christianity is a way of life that determines your attitude towards the world, not only what you pray in churches or at home. The Church, therefore, is there to teach and remind men of their trascendance and dignity, that Ethics and values are not arbitrary and that the dignity of the human person is not negotiable. The Popes of the XX century have been voices of Reason, humanity and reconciliation. Voices that have often been ignored with funest consequences. Europe specially has turned its back to its roots, its history and even its biological future. I'm glad there's Joseph Ratzinger, a deep lover of Europe and very well brought on modern issues, to fight that. Now, from the See of Saint Peter, it's not optional for him to denounce what's wrong in the world, it's his sacred duty.
