Well, as you know, i will never ask a WW2 related question on this thread, so its time to dig into the books.

(after 2 minutes 17 seconds of looking)

Name Confederate General Joeseph E. Johnson's 3 corps commanders at the battle of Kennesaw Mountain of late June 1864.

(I figure this will stump most of you euros, i know, the American Civil War might not be a point of interest. But if you want to see the TRUE transition from the Napoleanic war and tactics, to the trenchwarfare of WW1, you should study the American Civil War)

Its true. At the Beginning of war you had Large masses of Lined up troops firing volley after volley into eachother's ranks and by the end of the war, at the battle of Petersburg you had full Trench Warfare and no-man's land.

(Instead of Maxim's we had Gatlings, God Bless the doctor from Indiana)

Nope, Sorry Knacker, in fact youve brought up an interesting thing.

All right, General Thomas 'Stonewall' Jackson was killed by confederate musketmen in June 1863. It is widely thought that had Lee Had Jackson with him at Gettysburg that he would have won. Also, Jackson was the Commader of the '1st Brigade' of the army of Northern Virginia.

    HOW EMBARRASSING!
I mentioned the wrong commander...and further to that, he wasn't even on the same side. That's like saying Eisenhower was head of Army Group Centre!!!

LOL, NO PanzerKnacker, Stonewall Jackson was on the side of the Confederacy, he had just been dead for a year by the time of this battle.

Okay I'll give you guys a hint The Army of North Virginia commanded by General Rober E. Lee, was the confederate force that fought at Gettysburg and was considered the most powerful confederate army.

Nope Stonewall Jackson was dead, and I believe Joe Johnston commanded the Army of North Carolina.

Most Confederate Armies consisted of three Corps and each Corps had three divisions.

It is a tough one :D

Here's another hint: One of them said after the battle. "That old man... Had my division massacred at Gettysburg."

And another was a Texan who lost a arm or was it a leg?

The third graduated 50th out of 56 cadets in West Point's Class of 1842.

Lt. Gen. James Longstreet - 42, from South Carolina and Alabama, graduated West Point, Class of 1842. "Old Pete," as he was called by his men, commanded the First Corps of the Army of Northern Virginia. A stubborn, effective fighter, he opposed Lee's battle plan at Gettysburg. Much of the Southern controversy about Gettysburg centers around Longstreet's command decisions during the battle. In many ways, the events at Gettysburg would haunt him until the end of his life. Died January 2, 1904.

Lt. Gen. Richard S. Ewell - 46, from Virginia, graduated West Point, Class of 1840. Commander of Lee's Second Corps, he led "Stonewall Jackson's old corps at Gettysburg. Though brilliant on the first day of the battle, he would later fail to take key Union positions and allwed his subordinate commanders to set the tone of the battle on the Confederate left. He was wounded and lost a leg at Second Manassas and died January 25, 1872.

    Ambrose Hill was the 3rd,
Lt. General A. P. Hill General Hill was a West Point graduate and commanded the Third Corps of the Army of Northern Virginia. His troops opened the battle on July 1, 1863. General Hill commanded the Confederate forces during the majority of that day. His troops also fought on July 2, and he sent the better part of two divisions into the grand assault on July 3, also known as "Pickett's Charge". Tragically, General Hill did not survive the war. He was killed in Virginia barely a week before the Confederate surrender at Appomattox Court House.

    I think I got it

Sorry CGM, but you named Lee's three corps commanders. The question was who are the three Divisional Commanders of the First Corps of the Army of North Virginia.

    You're getting closer [IMG]
