He apparently also goes by the name Hasan Akbar, and he is on trial as we speak. He apparently has trouble sleeping, as he has sleep apnea. The most telling line of the article is: "At a hearing last December, Colonel Henley pushed back the date for Akbar's court-martial to April in order for his attorneys to have more time to build an insanity defense."
Thanks Monty! I was reading Rick Atkinsons "In The Company Of Soldiers" and when I read the account of the fragging I had to know if something came of it. I could'nt find it anywhere. I hope they get on with it Thanks again! DB
No problem David, I was a little curious about it myself. I really wouldn't want to be in Akbar's shoes at this point. Military justice is usually a little more harsh in these situations than civilian criminal courts. Guilt equals death. If he is guilty, I wonder how they will carry it out, I can't imagine that the US Army will use lethal injection or the chair. Hanging? Firing squad perhaps?
Good. The scumbag is getting what he deserves. Hopefully this will be a great lesson to all other terrorist-sympathizers thinking about lobbing a grenade into their own countrymen's tent.
I agree, in time of war the punishment must be an eye for an eye, in this case death fits the crime. I'm still curious as to how they would carry out his execution, anyone know?
