I hope I'm allowed to post my site http://www.world-war2.com I've just started on it and its getting along quite well. I hope you like it I need some personal accounts, poems and a list of good WWII books, so if you can help me, plz help me If you'd like to help, mail me
What's your site got/going to have, that this site doesn't, and more? Also you seem low on crediting sources which begs the question do you have permission to feature rip-offs? No.9
Like I said, I've just Started (3 days ago), so I will have more articles and sections soon. I'm working on a credits page, in which i will credit the writers of the articles and the makers of the photos.
Don't know because this site is down, so I can't really say that yet. Every new site, is a new source for research and gives a new look on certain subjects. The Webmasters of my site are going to interview veterans and their stories will be posted on the site, this site has that as well, but different stories. [ 19. I have checked out your site and thinkt that it can be fun and useful to check out sometimes. I have added it to my favourites so I will keep an eye on it. Good luck.
anton_K I've checked out your site and it looks good. I especially like the maps. Keep up the good work.
Anton : A couple of things since I have been involved with my own personal web-pages for 3 years now and rebuilding it so we can re-open this winter. You need to remove your quote at the top stating "all you need to know and more...." that just isn't cool in my standards as you are stating that your site is the ultimate in coverage in WW 2 materials. Second you are covering way too much matieral and you need to either cover personal men and bios or certain 3 to 4 of the major battle/campaigns. Even if you and the other gents in your webmaster crew(s) have unlimited web-space you still cannot cover the whole war on a single web-site. Your material will become dilluted and you will have to add so many sub-links that it will take way to long to down-load and you will loose visitors. Start small and work up as you finish or add at least 2 to 3 pages of text covering a certain person in a battle as you mentioned you guys want to cover vets interviews. maybe this last item(s) will be your strong point I am not sure.... ? Be prepared to come up with new photos. there is nothing worse than putting in maps, drawings, and photos that have already been seen published time and time again in books. You need something fresh if you want to gain accessive numbers to your site. And be prepared for criticism whether it be positive or negative. You will gain much confidence in this. suggestion also might be is to come on the forums again with an update(s) after 6 months so we can see how the site has gained in size and quality. ~E
Good luck with your site, but as others above have hinted, you need to have some specific ideas of what it is you want to do and achieve; re-telling the story of WW2 in general terms is, quite frankly, a waste of time - as it has been done so many times in print and elsewhere on the net. When I started my own site I had a specific focus; WW2 battlefields and how to visit them, plus detailed info on the British Army. You might consider looking for some other type of focus, or provide some slightly more in-depth info on battles and personalities. But don't be put off - you can reach millions via the web and it is a powerful tool!
Thx for the hints, will be changing a lot after what you all said, and I hope I will make a interesting site for you all.
Checked your site out and I think it's real cool. I hope it has some great success. Oh and I know i'm late but--your allowed to post your site here.
