Close enough. My source stated the prison as being the reason. It was only undamaged one large enough to hold the prisoners in one spot.

    quiz us, Lou.

This is absolutely wrong. Lexington wore measure 21 solid navy blue camoflauge until mid 1945 when she was repainted into Measure 12 navy blue (or possibly 5-N navy grey) to the hanger bay with haze grey above.
But in addition to Lexington, Cabot (CV 28) and, Langley (CV-27) also never got a mulit-color "dazzle" pattern measure 32, 33 or 34 like many other carriers. Just thought we should be correct on this....

    whoaaaa!... good find, TA!

but.... maybe to be more accurate.... judging by the CV numbers, at the time of christening and for a period thereafter (at least, long enough for the sailors to come up with a nickname), was she the only one with the solid blue camo?

    once again, good find!

    -whatever

    -Lou

EDIT: The system won't let me ring TA's rep bell - says it hasn't been long enough since the LAST time I rung it.... but SOMEBODY needs to!

    w/e

    -L

EDIT EDIT Actually, a little more research indicates that more than one source (including the CV-16 Museum website) credits the nickname to Tokyo Rose because of numerous erroneous reports of her sinking.

So, the correct answer would be "...a stylish blue-camo paint job and a crazy Japanese lady radio announcer."

    go figure

    Sweet! Let's see...

When the USS Arizona exploded at Pearl Harbor, Admiral Kidd, who was on board, was killed instantly. They didn't find anything left of him except what? (Hint: it was melted into the wall.)

I heard it was either his class ring or his wedding ring, I guess depending on who you ask. I was going to accept anything about a ring.
    Your turn.

You are probably thinking Sumatra rather than Java but, in the 40's the main oil fields were on Java along with the refineries. DEI is Dutch East Indies the name of the islands now making up modern day Indonesia. Since this is a WW 2 board I went with WW 2 names.
