The lazy, all-thumbs modeller strikes again.... After my recent Normandy trip, I finally decided to get a nice 'display model' Tiger, so treated myself to the new, 1/35 scale Dragon ready-built Tiger I, and for good measure, added Dragon's ready-painted 'Wittmann' crew set. OK, OK, I know that it's a 'Kursk' Tiger with a 'Normandy' crew, but I'm rather pleased with it.....
Martin throw some busted up shrubs and trees all over it and no-one will ever know. do I dare ask how much you paid for this ? looks sharp E `
Please do spray some matt varnish on the figures as cloth doesn't shine. And why is the gun muzzle so black? Did you lend it to PzJgr to stir his barbecue coals with it? Sorry, these are obvious faults... But the weathering on the tank is very subtle, good work.
These pre-painted models have got so good, I did a Dragon 1/35th Tiger last year and it was a several month nightmare of single link tracks and photo-etch. The temptation to buy one pre-prepared instead is quite large. I'll definitely check out the figures as I'm useless at them. (Though I'm with Za on the blackened muzzle...) Is the tank plastic or metal? Cheers, Adam.
Nice addition to your collection Martin. I'm with the rest of you guys, pre-made models have come a long way recently, and the prices are low enough to make them serious options. I have a couple 1/72nd armor pieces that are great. It seems that the "burnt matchstick" barrel is common amongst these premade models, other than that looks fairly good, thanks for sharing it too.
Pre-painted? I thought you had done it yourself! That's the trouble with being a half-hermit (no! not a half-wit!)
Done it myself !? Sorry guys ( although I could be really dishonest...)...no, I know my limitations. I just don't have the talent, patience, tools, paint, facilities.....the end result would be an unmitigated, thumbprint-covered disaster. The Dragon model is pre-built plastic - not as nice as those 1/35 all-metal Minichamps ones, but looking rather better on display IMHO due to the 'weathering' and, most of all, the realistic 'sit' of the tracks ; always a problem on Tiger models. It's a bit too expensive at about $65/$75 in the US but I believe some 'deals' can be found. Yes, I'll be matting the pre-made figures but they are really very good for the price ( around $15 the set ). My 'Tiger' enthusiasm was rekindled by my visit to the Vimoutiers one and I just wanted a nice, reasonably realistic display model and this Dragon model fits the bill rather nicely.....
Expensive? If I were to paint a build and paint a model of that scale to that quality level would have charged a lot more, plus the cost of the model! But of course I'm not a Chinese sweatshopee
Cheater! Just kidding. That look great! I saw a few premades myself in the model shop and was more then impressed with them. Mine looks more like something a kindergartener would have made. I just figure the more i make, the more i practice, the better it'll turn out. Speaking of which, i'll be able to post some pics of my crappy model (1:72) later today. I'm all moved in now (hence the internet this morning) and the gf and her parents are leaving in a few hours. :'(
It is a good Tiger, I like the tracks especially. The troops are alot more detailed than I could ever do. There is a color (matt, of course) called "Smoke", which you may want to spread over everything (except the leather guy) to tone down the shine. Very clean looking.
"A Tiger has only one weak point. That's its ass." - Sgt. Oddball (Donald Sutherland) from Kelly's Heroes Sorry Martin, I couldn't resist!
It's a really nice model, but now that I have the FOV 1/16 version I'm a little more disappointed that the Dragon 1/35 is so very 'plastic'.....
Big price difference between The FOV 1/16 Tiger & the Dragon 1/35 Tiger to be fair Martin I've been told there not a great lot of die-cast in the 1/16 to ?
There's certainly enough to make it feel very heavy - if the whole thing were diecast it'd probably go through the floor.....
