Just watched a document on some German plane projects incl Me 262 etc and it was mentioned that up to 80% of the facilities planes and personnel, I reckon that means the scientists as well, were captured by the Red Army. Anyone know how close to the truth this is? That would be a huge advantage and I must admit I have never learnt the advantage being this big...

    Hi ,
Kurt Tank designer of the FW190 and his staff was captured by the RAF Regiment in 1945.
There is a well known picture of kurt`s son posed with REgt Troops.

Tank went on to a somewhat successful design career in Argentina, Egypt and India, finishing with the Marut.

    Hi there,

There were 1433 Me-262s (of all types) produced. Of these only between 200 and 300 actually flew. I know the Americans captured a load at Lechfeld Test Command Station (Ekdo 280) along with Do 355, and probably a load of other stuff.

    Pictures :

(check the Image Gallery for captured 262s)

The manufacture of 262 components was well distributed throughout Germany (to minimise the effect of allied bombing on production), so I cant see how 80% of it could've fallen into Soviet hands.

Enemy Aircraft Evaluation units are quite well documented for the allies, but its difficult to find much from the Soviet side. Maybe thats just due to a secrecy policy?

    Regards,

    H.
