A mercenary's motivation is by definition, profit.

I started my post with the sentence "Their conduct aside..." so I made no distinctions about ethics, policy or morality. All I said was the concept of the mercenary soldier is an old one. Some people I have spoken too are appalled that the US is hiring mercs, but it's really shouldn't be surprising. As long as there has been warfare, there have been mercenaries.

I'm not quite sure what you are disagreeing with Kerem, I didn't make a qualitative statement, I just stated a fact. You might disagree with the morality of their use (whether used by Bush, Napoleon or Julius Caesar), but you can't disagree that they are not new.

    Otto/Kerem

are you saying or someone is saying that hired hit men or mercs cannot be held liable in a court and have full immunity ? if so that is quite wrong, I know this as a fact.

we used them via our govt. in Cambodia in Nam and have used them in the mideast in the past and will continue to do so as permitted

Sorry Kerem, I just re-read my post and it seemed a little harsh, which wasn't intended. Sorry! ;)

Yes Erich, I heard some reports from sources that say these contractors operate with impunity. Whether this is accurate or standard anti-war exaggeration I can't say.

Your biased agenda is very obvious from your postings

Who is rush Limbaugh? I have just stated that your commentary, using questionable sources, is a onesided smear of the US forces in Iraq.

    Oooooh....Don't taser me dude:D:D:D:D:D

Once again you are incorrect, politics and who's in power has everything to do with the War in Iraq and its outcome.

Hmmm....I smell a trust fund baby and oops it needs to be changed;)

Oui(way) no surprise, I guess you weren't happy about your last election but I was;)

Well that says it all, no more to be said:rolleyes:

If this your attempt is to refer to the deficit that's funny coming from a Frenchman. If you are familiar with US ficsal realities then you are aware that under Nixon, of all people, there was a surplus and with fiscal responsibilty, unlike the Looney congress woman's dream of socialist medical care, the budget and deficit can be reduced. But my taxes did not go up!!!

Who are Scully and Mulder? Oh you must be a Science Fiction fan.

Criminaliens are illegals that enter the US without papers, like the ones that blew up the towers on 9/11. We don't want them in the US.

Well this is at least informative but it goes even deeper into tribal levels amongst those various sects.

Ok, how about this? The US is winning!!! The surge is working!!! Iraq is much more stable and safer now then it ever was under Saddam Hussein! There is less terrorism in the world and all of US's allies who have gotten involded in Iraq have benefited from it as a result the credibility of the US has gone through the roof and the US military capabilities are unquestionable by any nation.

My questionable sources eh? My sources have come from numerous countries, such as Canada, Russia and a few other European sources but mostly from the US.... One sided would be for me to use FOX as my only source...( by the way Fox is also one of my sources )

You dont know who Rush Limbaugh is and claim to be Republican? Man your going to Republican hell!!! :D

Very well, then please be so kind as to explain to me how education in US public schools and Wall Street gains, have to do with progress in Iraq.

But who talks here about an increase in taxes, except you, Mulder ?

And, obviously, there's a confusion in your mind about illegal immigrants whose presence is delinquite, and illegal immigrants, but in addition commit crimes or terrorist acts.

That's what you get when you let medias put ideological propaganda neologism as criminalien in your mouth.

Anyway, unless you want less global security, unless you want Irak turning into a terrorist sanctuary, unless you want innocent Iraki contiue to die by the hundreds each month, you can only wish that the US army succeeds in bringing order back in this country.

Herr oberst I don't know what your aim is, but you will notice that in no time you have managed to irritate almost evey poster on this threat. Once again this is not a promotional article for the Republican party , nor is it for the Democratic party, and it has nothing to do with our last elections either (glad you think you know who I supposedly voted for...) . Most people here don't care about political propaganda , it's not a matter of sides, it's just that most of us live in other countries. If I want to talk about political parties in the U.S. then I go to a specific thread for this. When you are ready to understand that the value of a poster is evaluated by the qualities of his posts at not on his political tags, then you can argue with me. Not all posters are lefties (and even they are so what?), not everybody but you is wrong and I can tell you that all those who you are tagged are universally appreciated by our conservative friends in the forum (including the Republicans, I hope you can understand that). You should learn to appreciate them and if you start respecting them , maybe you'll be respected too.

It is true that PMC personnel in Iraq will not face prosecution under Iraqi law for killing anyone.

It is I believe a clause added to the Iraqi constitution. The worst that has happened to over zealous PMC operators is to be removed from the country and no longer employed.

The quality of the firms and the personnel they employ varies greatly.

While mercenaries have been employed since pre-biblical times, one still has to question their motivation and make sure that they act in an ethical and correct manner. Therefore there must be some form of global regulation introduced into the PMC world.

getting back to the Mercs then.....it must be new to have impunity what in Iraq ? and Turkey ? Mercs were given assignment(s) knowing full well they were on their own to complete the task yes or no, and also if captured were on their own having to deal it out with their captors.

Syria is just another stepping block in the source of evil, surely many of you have heard what happened with the IAF and Syria recently, with minimal media coverage. Syria did not resist nor retaliate. N. Korea has said nothing ..........about thier destroyed shipment

I'm sure the next move, if any, would be Iran instead of Syria.

For Syria, USA cannot allow themselves to loose even more credibility with starting another conflict based of hazy considerations. After the blatant lies about Irak, very strong reasons are needed.

In the other hand, there are many good reasons to strike Iran, with this nasty clown bragging about destroying Israel, while doing this, they would ensure a very wide support from the international community.

It is said that Putin warned Iran about an incoming air strike against nuclear facilities, from Israel with USA radar support, that would occur in the near future - between the end of the Ramadan and the end of the year.

But maybe it was just a commercial move to sell to Iran more anti aircraft missiles lol.

Meanwhile, it seems that the USA is very reluctant to show to the IAEA the satellite pictures which they claim are showing the progress of nuclear workings, which could make one believe the said progresses are a little over-exagerated ;)

And to confirm what I posted above a few days ago (thanks to my crystal ball :D ) the US Senate approved on Sept. the 26 approved a plan

"for decentralizing Iraq in a federal system as permitted by Iraq's constitution to stop the country from becoming a failed state.

It proposes to separate Iraq into Kurdish, Shiite and Sunni entities, with a federal government in Baghdad in charge of border security and oil revenues.

It also aims to defuse sectarian violence by offering Sunnis a share of oil revenues, boosting reconstruction aid and debt relief and launching an international diplomatic effort to rally the world's great powers and Iraq's neighbors to the new federation's cause.

Advocates say the plan, championed by Democratic senator and presidential hopeful Joseph Biden, offers a route to a political solution in Iraq that could allow US troops to eventually go home without leaving chaos behind.

The measure won support from some prominent Republicans, providing a rare moment of bipartisanship in the intensely polarized debate over the Iraq war."

A first step on the road to partition ?

    You sure about that?

Who other than the USA and now France is willing to got to war with Iran?

I fail to see how further military action will make anything any better. Plus I think attacking Iran would be biting off more than the USA could chew.

France's postition is somewhat different than expressed by Kouchner. He clarified things and said war was the ultimate and the worse option but there was simply no way as to let Iran get the bomb but war would be the very last option used if sanctions and negociations failed. If you visit the Tower of London you will see one of Louis XIV canons with the engraving "ULTIMA ARGUO REGGI" which in Latin means "the last argument of the kings".
