very similar to the Stormartillerivagn (Sav) m/43 but that one had the recoil cyl below the gun barrel.

This is easy, but I liked what looks like a "ranging pole" at the back, in my modeller past that sort of detail would have had me looking for a kit.
I also gives a good idea of how this vehicle was meant to be used.

Correct, it's a 8.8cm PaK43 (L/71) auf Geschützwagen III/IV (Sd. Kfz. 164) but better known as either Nashorn or Hornisse.

    Your go.

The only other one I can think of is the Japanese Type 89 Otsu (I-Go), but then I have been wrong. Where is Nigel?

I certainly does look like a Mark C, that picture is labeled as such here

    http://ww2photo.mimerswell.com/tanks/ire/tank/mk.c.htm

and the picture on the very good, and usually reliable, Tanks! site looks the same

AFAIK a Mark C was bought by Japan, it went on fire as soon as started, injuring the two Wickers engineers in it, and had to wait six months for a new engine to resume trials. It inspired the type 89 (while the incident may have influenced the Japanese choice for diesels but the latter had dropped the side machine guns so it's possibly a "missing link" prototye or a Mark C copy from some other country.
