    Close enough

Its an Australian M3 Stuart stuck on a coconut stump, Cape Endaiadere, Papua New Guinea, in Dec 1942. The odd looking things sticking up are actually the open tool bin lids, the tracks are also fitted with some form of grouser. I was hoping the odd picture may throw some people.

I was about to edit my post, I just remembered that the M3 and M5 wading kit was a huge boxlike air intake at the back...so on your pic it must have been something else!

A common vehicle just with the tool boxes open, the back up in the air making it look a little odd and the track grousers I wondered what people would come up with.

    Your turn though.

If posting interiors of destroyed tanks is not within the rules I will post something else!

    What tank?

What a great picture, a gearbox and steering (brake ) system of what looks like a light tank, and I will add a rear drive tank at that

Gearbox and steering system is correct, but I'm afraid it's not rear driven and it is rather a medium tank!

Given the mortar carrier clue I would have to guess it was an M4 of some sort. Various mortars were mounted on old M4 Sherman chassis by the IDF with the most prominent being the Makmat with 160mm Soltam mortar.

T-26 chassis for sure but... is that a searchlight?

E: Even after some googling I am not sure if such variant exists :D

It is indeed using a T26 chassis, so that narrows it down. looking for pics may not help as this is the only one I have seen. It is written about however.

TR-26 TS or TR-26C ( google translator!???!!) Refueling Tank? The spherical object on top is a fuel tank. Fuel was transfered via handpump. There are also two fire extinguishers.

Correctomundo. A very odd contraption, there are various designations for them TT26 S, T26St plus others, T26 fuel transporter would have done for me.
