As sad as this may be, it is somehow comforting to know that the outlook in GB in these PC times differs little from that across the pond.

And the Equal Opportunity guys were out in force, making sure that an equal amount of Ukranians were slaughtered along with those from Moscow, the Urals, western Russia, as well as native Germans with their "allies". We wouldnt' want any one particular group to go home (alive) feeling like they'd given less than their fellows, now would we?

hey guys, lets face it, we will watch any thing if it has even the slightest conection to WWII, but we dont make up the general movie going population, so the folks who make 'em have to change things to make kids happy. and most could'nt care less if patton carried 1 pistol or 2, or montgomery wore a tankers beret with 8 badges or 3.

That being the case, why do film-makers constantly refer to actual events ( which won't mean anything to the kids ? ). Why not call the battle 'Brobdingnag' or any made-up name to keep the kids happy ? It'd also forestall any criticism from people like us. IMPO, the moment a film is based on documented actual events, it's fair game for 'anorak-style' criticism.......

Agreed. However, I think you underestimate the kids. When I was a kid movies based on actual events did matter to me, even if the details inthe movie were not accurate or exaggerated.

You're right there....saw 'Battle Of Britain' when I was 12 and me ( and all my friends ) could tell that the 'Me109s' weren't real ones.....

Which I suppose begs the question - who are Hollywood making rubbish films for ?

Enemy at the Gates....far from my favorite WWII-era film, not even in my top 10, but hardly a total bomb either. I can think of some much larger (budget-wise) Hollywood productions that were WAY worse than this film. Pearl Harbor...anyone? Battle of the Bulge...anyone? I agree with some others. Jude Law was miscast. I enjoyed Ed Harris though and some of the duel scenes were interesting.

It was good entertainment. Ed Harris was believable as the aristocratic major. But the graphic sex scene - What? Oh yeah, this was hollywood. The sex scene was obligatory.
