Does anyone know what R.T.O. Sunfleet (could be Punfleet in the writing but I don't think it would make sense!). I have a letter where a friend of my Mother's has written that he is leaving Cambridge and on his way to R.T.O. Sunfleet. I feel R.T.O. should mean something like Regimental Training Office? but am uncertain. Could someone familiar with British military acronyms assist?

    Thanks!

Could it be Purfleet? There were several army camps at Purfleet in WW2, and also some POW camps. See, for example, BBC - WW2 People's War - Sid and Jean Shorten - Wartime Memories: Chapter 4 and Online Archaeology - UK Archaeology Map - View Item

    Do you know his rank?

    Thank you Forrest.

I thought I replied early this morning, but see the post isnt't there. I looked at the letter and it was indeed Purfleet. I've done a little googling, but there doesn't seem to be much considering it sounds like it was a multipurpose location from RAF to Artillery to Navy! I'll have to try to find some books that have information as well.

Thanks for setting me in the right direction with my search!
