Hello All, My favorite movie is that superb Movie "Iron Cross" made in 1970' with J.Koburn, and Maximilien Shell... the combat are realy real, well done, and the story is quite good what do you think about it ? thanks Sebastian.
Excellent movie. Too bad the sequel was not of as high quality as the first movie. I think that this was the first movie that came close to showing what 'real' war was like. Excellent. Now you've got me motivated to see it again.
Like Ike said, it's an excellent movie. The slow action directing that Sam Peckinpah did for many mnay scenes in it was brilliant. I liked the "sequal" mainly because Robert Mitchum, Curt Jurgens, Klaus Lowitsch and one other guy the one who played Anselm from the first movie; were in it. However, I hated it when Krueger and Anselm were both killed in the sequel.
Sequel you say, What's it called? Peckinpah directed it? Oh wait a minute, Break through? Not very good, and not Peckinpah....the farm house meeting with Richard Burton and Rod Steiger?....bad sequel Stransky was supposed to get nailed when he couldn't reload near the rail car at the end of Cross of Iron.....Oh well, I guess he got promoted to major and transferred back to the western front in record time. Yup, Peckinpah was a great director and excellent actors. Can't find anything bad to say about Cross of Iron....
IMO, great film by Sam Peckinpah Surprisingly seldom mentioned in "WWII movies" - discussions... And Iron Cross is a good break from the "brainless german soldiers don't take cover and are killed by the very brave GIs" - films ;-D _
It was called 'Battlethrough'. Had Richard Burton as Steiner. Personally I can't stand the music score. It was produced by West Germans but directed by an American.
I'd never heard of the sequel either - have to say, it doesn't sound too wonderful. 'Cross Of Iron' is a classic, and an important Peckinpah movie.....
Cross of Iron is a top film and one of the best to show combat on the Eastern Front , love the opening few minutes whern they take out the mortar crew and Steiner looks round and says " Good Kill " a classic line !! Might just watch it again for the hundreth time tonight. Paul
Hi Ike, hope you don't mind a slight correction but, the correct title of the movie is, Breakthrough. Forgot to mention that the Stransky character in this sequal was not played by Maximilian Schell-who was the original Stransky. By the way, if I can ever find a place or an individual who can make photo's from some movie cells I have, I do have I think 6-8 from Cross of Iron. The rest I have are from: A Bridge Too Far. I'd like to get them posted here. I found one-that's ONE photographic studio in town that could make prints from only 4 cells-at $10.00 a piece! All four of them came out with a "pinkish" look to them and are of scenes of the fighting that's going on when Lt. Meier gets killed.
That's cool Carl that you have movie cells from those films, what a neat thing to collect. I've seen the ones from Bugs Bunny and they go for big bucks
There must be gremlins in here because I swear I typed breakthrough. Thanks for the correction Carl. I don't mind at all.
Hi Col, though these are made out of the same material, they are two different birds. Animation cells are very big usually about 20 or so inches by about 16 inches. These are the ones that actual art is painted oon and each cell is a one of a kind. I used to have several cells at one time from The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles-along with some pre-cell pencil sketches and notes. I sold these off long ago-unfortunately. Movie cells are about the size of a thumbnail. There are more than one copy of each movie cell. Thanks Ike. ;-)) Jeff, your an eeeeeville man ;-)) PS, Alabama is now officially kicked out of the Confederacy and is now known as a YANKEE State ;-D
I prefer sneaky. How can it be kicked out, it is the HEART of Dixie. See, it says so on our tags. Just ignore that "Stars Fell On" crapola.
thanks for this great Discussion my friends, Steiner the great not "Hitler member" German soldier with that little friends soldier the "Steiner section" fight the Soviet Army for a lost battle, it's a real Bravery... 100% for my favorite movie !!! Sebastian.
  Even I can see that photoshop was used in the makings of the license plate photo! The actual "Heart of Dixie" was the State of Virginia. Just ask Robert Edward Lee and he will tell you so. ;-))
