War is to man what maternity is to a woman. From a philosophical and doctrinal viewpoint, I do not believe in perpetual peace.

To commit troops to a campaign in which they cannot be provided with adequate air support is to court disaster.

"The commander who thinks divisions are all alike will lose battles. . . . One division does one thing well, another does another thing best. And it is the commander's responsibility to see that the right divisions are in the right places at the proper time."

Nothing is so good for the morale of the troops as occasionally to see a dead general.

What a sobering distillation of the very essence of war.

Tactics, strategy, planning..... it's what it all boils down to.

    Ugly business, that.

    *Friendly fire - isn't
    *Suppressive fires - won't
*If it's stupid but works, it isn't stupid
*Try to look unimportant: the enemy may be low on ammo and not want to waste a bullet on you
*Never share a position with anyone braver than youself
*If your attack is going really well, you're in an ambush.
*The enemy diversion you're ignoring is their main attack.
*The enemy invariably attacks on two occasions: when they're ready and when you're not
*Teamwork is essential: it gives the enemy other people to shoot at.
*Don't look conspicuous: it draws fire.
