If I may, it is the V-173 "Flying Pancake" built by Vought.

The Vought V-173 "Flying Pancake" designed by Charles H. Zimmerman was an American experimental test aircraft built as part of the Vought XF5U "Flying Flapjack" World War IIUnited States Navy fighter aircraft program.
Both aircraft featured an unorthodox "all-wing" design consisting of a flat, somewhat disk-shaped body (hence its name) serving as the lifting surface.[1] Two piston engines buried in the body drove propellers located on the leading edge at the wingtips.

You got the bugger, it is the XF5U by Vought. The "Flying Flapjack" and also the "Zimmer Skimmer" (short for Zimmerman) were used as nicknames. The thing was pretty "fast" even with the piston engines (projected speeds), but the jets showing up shot them down. I always wondered what that shape and say a "turbo-prop" would have done?

    Yer up Navy Dave!

Actually, I would like to give JAGDTIGERI this opportunity to ask the next one. Since I accidentally went out of turn, I would like JAGDTIGER1 to have the honor. Thanks.

And yes, I saw the History Channel too, so I knew all about that "Flying Pancake". Plus, it is a Navy plane to boot.

    Guten morgen meine freund (sp?).

I've got a good one for you.

This guy who was a lowly Mess Cook, won the Navy Cross (Second only to the Medal of honor) for his bravery in Pearl Harbor when he manned a .50 caliber machine gun and shot down incoming Japanese aircraft at the battle of Pearl Harbor. Another Navy hero to be sure.
