Poor Stalin. He thought he could play Hitler for a fool and buy enough time to get his army in shape.

"When the German troops met the Russian ones in Poland, the officers reported to Hitler that the equipments of the Russians were very poor. But Hitler didn't believe it. When the Russians attacked the Finns and didn't make any progress, Hitler believed it was really the truth." - Speer

Ironic that just a couple years later these same men would be battling to the bitter end against one another.

Great photos and I have to echo Otto's comments...looking at their smiling faces and camaraderie, it's hard to imagine that 2 years later, they would be fighting each other to the death.

Pretty often it's called Brest-Litovsk in order to distinguish from Brest in France.

I wonder whether the Russians will parade there too , they seem to have memory problems with the 1939-41 period. :D

I think we all do skipper. I shall keep my thoughts on Polands own questionable ideologies to myself before ww2 while the world celebrates their participation.. Other Poles have other memories of the times.
