Jaeger stems from my early service years with a Norwegian 'Jeger' unit. (Litteraly hunter. Light infantry/mountain troops and commandoes are called Jeger in Norway. Marines and Paras also add Jeger to their name)

The reason why I spell it Jaeger is due to the Panzer General series that used that spelling. So it would be easier for the cultured people of the world (english speaking people) to understand what it meant.

The first forum that I joined a few years ago was about British Bomber Command and Hamburg was the obvious choice. As I like to keep things simple, I use it in every forum I join.

My user name is from the old German panzer training ground at GrossBorn. It was located in Pomerania and is now known as Borne Sulinowo (Poland) and most recently served as the Soviet Union's largest military base outside the USSR. I had the great experience to live there for one year in an old Red Army Captains' Barracks. The buildings have been privatised and turned into small businesses and apartments, etc.

Mine also stems from playing wargame (all be it via email) where i was placed in charge of the DAK and the Italian Troops in the area. I discovered i knew very little about WW2 at the time (was 13 or so years old) so started doing research, namely on the North African Campaign. This triggered interest Italy as the Italians were always talked about in a negative way. I also wanted to understand why the Italians were so out-dated in equipment etc. I bought about called "Mussolinis Soldiers" or something along those lines.

When I discovered the 12-day-old WW2 Forums, i instantly joined. I could have done the typical 'Rommel' thing as my name, but that is way too overused. Mussolini, on the other hand, is a far rarer name. It's also fitting for me because I am a Moderator here, thus (in terms of Rank) above the rest of you Rogues. :D 'Il Duce' is also a great nickname, though in recent years a Rogue joined as 'Il Duce' so I can no longer refer to myself as 'Il Duce'.

This is also the only place i use Mussolini as my handle. I've used LRDGRat in the past too (Long Range Desert Group = The Desert Rats) and a host of other names.

In the dim and distant past, when Space Harrier was the game of choice for the discerning spotty twerp spending the odd half a day at the arcades, you had to spin through an alphabet using crude controls to enter your moniker on that prestigious high score/completed area.
'P' & 'O' were right next to each other and could make an identifiable word very easily; 'Poop'. I'm lazy, so this was high score name of choice for so long it became habit, and evolved with the advent of 'keyboards' into 'von Poop'.
Irritated by something I saw in passing on WW2t 2 years ago I signed up using the usual nom de plume, had a little rant expecting to leave it at one post never to return.
    Became oddly addicted...

So now stuck with a very silly username and the embarrassing business of introducing myself to 'Sommecourt' at Beltring with "Hello there, I'm Von poop"... Oh deary me.

    Cheers,
    Adam.

One of the first forums I visited when I got my first computer was a American War of Independence site, and it had a thread titled 'The redcoats are coming', so being a Brit I thought I'd reply using the member name 'redcoat'. ;)

My Uncle was with the 28th Pennsylvania National Guard during the war. Noone really knew this except for my father, who when meeting my Mothers family for the first time was told my Uncle had been in the Army as well, and when my dad inquired as to what outfit, he told him the 28th. The only other time my Uncle said anything about the war was when he had to have an Xray taken, and the Doctor was concerned about a dark mass he saw on my Uncles Xray. My Uncle reportedly looked at the xray and said: "Yeah, thats shrapnel".

Anyway, noone asked him anything about his time in the 28th, and once I found out the little that I did know, My Mother forbade me to ask him about it. He died a few years ago, and now the only info Ive found was via the Government. I know he received a Bronze star, purple heart and a few other ribbons, but the Government cant find out anything else. So, I use the name Keystone Two-Eight in his honor

    A surprisingly interesting thread this.

I prefer "toot" backwards, or at least "Toto" Slip.

Wow, Space Harrier, I dropped a few quarters into this game also, although my high scores always said, unsurprisingly "Otto"

Thought of using some "cover names" but did not feel happy about that. So just my first name then.

My first experience with forums was with wet-shaving in general, and straight razor shaving in particular.... and, those first couple months of shaving with a straight razor, before learning a few secrets and a lot of technique.... well, it was a blood bath of biblical proportions,,,,

... so, when it came to choosing a screen name, 'Scarface' seemed oddly appropriate.... and, not wanting to have a separate name for every forum, I just kind of adopted it across the board.
